The graffiti writing career of Munich artist Loomit began at age 14, and what was “just for fun” to begin with, a way to pass time, later became motivated by an obsession with painting and street art. As a young artist, Loomit already became acquainted with the risks and dangers of unauthorized nocturnal painting: in 1984 he had to face his first court proceedings and thereafter decided to leave his civilian name behind and to instead create art under his new pseudonym: LOOMIT. Equipped with this new artistic identity, the Northern German graffiti writer was soon well on his way to making a name for himself internationally.
In the 1990s Loomit embarked upon an eleven-month trip around the world, which not only provided him with inspiration for his work but also gave him the opportunity to intensively collaborate with local artists (such as DAIM, Henry Chalfrant ,or the artist Seen, who taught Loomit how to tattoo). Travelling was also to become an integral part of his future. Yet the artist finally settled down, selecting Munich as his new adopted home. With the support of the local mayor, Christian Ude, Loomit was able to move his art into museums, galleries, and numerous exhibition projects and today primarily creates art for commissioned projects or as a participant in group exhibitions. But for the youngest generation of graffiti artists, Loomit is and will continue to be a role model for painting metropolitan streets.
