moki & 1010
The Hamburg-based artist moki is known for her talent as a storyteller. Her images in photo-realistic style entice her audience into a world where the margins between reality and fiction interblend – where one believes to be discovering elements and people from the real world but is instead being drawn into a surreal storyland. As it were, moki takes us to mysterious, fanciful, romantic places where one can disappear, where one can feel safe as a viewer, again and again discovering with fascination something new. For moki, it is all a question of imagination, of fantasy. And such imagination and fantasy are evoked through a range of different media, techniques, and materials. The artist is inspired by impressions from her surroundings, by people she encounters, by stories she reads, by things she finds – all of which begin to tell their own stories in her pictures, liberating themselves from the occasional dreariness of everyday life. Whether comic, video installation, cut-out, or classical painting on canvas, moki almost intuitively pursues the stories of her motifs, which she with almost instinctive certainty repeatedly encounters – and which her audience can also discover again and again not only in renowned galleries and at art fairs but also in public space. moki will in Lueneburg be once again demonstrating her affinity for the streets, this time in collaboration with the Hamburg artist 1010.
