Rik Reinking
Rik Reinking (33) was raised in Oldenburg and in 1996 started university studies in law and art history in Hamburg. His first art project was organized jointly with artist friends of his in 1997 in the Old Elbe Tunnel. In collaboration with the Lafrenz Collection, Reinking in 2001 exhibited works from his own collection under the title Incitement to a new perception at the New Museum Weserburg Bremen. Numerous further exhibitions followed, including this selection: Kritik am Kontext (Hamburg, 2002), Dasein (Ernst Barlach Museum Wedel, 2003), 66-03: Werke aus den Sammlungen Lafrenz und Reinking (Neues Museum Weserburg, 2004), Schon vergeben (Art Cologne, 2005), stillonandnonthewiser (Heydt Museum Wuppertal, 2007), fresh air smells funny (Kunsthalle Osnabrück, 2008), call it what you like (Artcenter Silkeborg, Denmark, 2008), Urban Art (Weserburg | Museum of Modern Art, 2009).
The Rik Reinking Collection comprises works from nearly 200 artists. Starting with art from the 1960s, the Collection covers works from Art Informel, Fluxus, Minimalism, Conceptual Art, graffiti/street art, and contemporary painting. Artists represented in the Collection include Rolf Bergmeier, Toshiya Kobayashi, Johannes Esper, Baldur Burwitz, Monica Bonvicini, Daniel Man, Mathieu Mercier, Os Gemeos, Mirko Reisser (DAIM), and Mark Dion.
