Milestones of constructing the central building

Due to its legal form as a foundation university under public law, Leuphana can act as a building contractor during the intended restructuring of the University’s premises.
In contrast to other public building projects, in which the function of the building contractor is assumed by the state’s building management, Leuphana’s building project involves shorter administrative procedures and allows full on-site coordination of the project, which is likely to result in considerably shorter building periods and in faster completion of construction work. Project development is a complex procedure; however, we can often distinguish typical project stages and/or project components. These will be described in more detail below.
Laying the Foundation Stone
In the presence of Daniel Libeskind, the foundation stone for the new central building was laid in a festive ceremony on 8 May 2011. The ceremony was attended by numerous representatives from politics, the church, science, business, and civil society. Each of them placed a different coin into the foundation stone’s container.
