Phases and Components of the project

Adapting a university campus to changed requirements and needs is a long-term project. In recent years a number of measures were put in place to improve the use of the campus, its buildings and facilities for students and teachers. Here you will find an annotated range of the most important project phases of campus development:
Central building
- July 2012, placing the order and beginning of carcass work. The carcass of the central building is plannend to be completed in fall 2013.
- February 15, 2012, beginning of the construction works: By digging out the building pit the constructional works of the central building began.
- May 8, 2011, laying the foundation stone: During a festive ceremony the foundation stone for the new central building was laid.
- March 4, 2011, Building Permit: The building permit for the new central building was issued by the Hanseatic City of Lüneburg on March 4, 2011.
- December 2010, end of the PPP-procedure: Leuphana University is going to construct and operate the Libeskind building on its own initiative. This is the outcome of a decision made by Leuphana’s Foundation’s Council in December 2010, after it had reviewed the findings of the Competitive Dialogue.
- July 2009, general offer of a competitive dialogue on a Europe-wide basis within the PPP: To realize the building project, the University for some time considered the idea of adopting a model called public-private partnership (PPP).
- July 2008, submitting the Z Construction documentation: The Z Construction documentation is the official document of approval in which funding by the German Federal State of Lower Saxony was approved. Using the planning tools previously approved by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture, the help of expert planners was enlisted in the preparation of the document. Subsequently it was submitted to the Ministry of Science and Culture, the highest administration of finance in Lower-Saxony (Oberfinanzdirektion Niedersachsen) and also to the audit office of Lower Saxony.
- November 2007, space program: Approval of the space program by the Ministry for Science and Culture of Lower Saxony.
- Summer 2007, space program: Identifying the actual space requirements for the University was an essential part of the first planning stage. In the summer of 2007, discussions were undertaken with all units and divisions of the University.
- May 2007, City/District Framework Agreement: The City of Lüneburg, the District of Lüneburg, and Leuphana University concluded a joint strategic framework agreement to promote sustainable site development.
Attic developments, lecture halls, technical building
- August 2012 – October 2012: Development / reconstruction building 14
- January 2012 – July 2012: Attic development building 1
- August 2012: Development of building „Neubau Volgershall“ (new building Volgershall) begins due to letting it to the Jobcenter Lüneburg; completion planned for February 2013
- January 2012: Tenancy agreement is reached among Leuphana University Lüneburg and Jobcenter Lüneburg for development of „Neubau Volgershall“ (new building Volgershall)
- September 2011 - December 2011: Rooftop greening of the lecture halls and library to gain a new habitat for crested larks
- July 2010 - December 2010: Development library foyer, setting-up space for group work
- July 2010 - July 2011: New construction of building 28 (technical facility building) with parking module
- April 2010 - January 2011: Attic development building 5
- February 2010 - March 2011: Attic development building 6
- May 2009 - March 2010: Attic development building 11
- March 2009: Application for space programs for development of buildings 5 and 6 as well as for the technical facility building (building 28) and subsequently permission and contribution of funds from the economic-growth package II
- December 2007 - December 2008: Attic development building 7
- Fall 2006: Attic development building 10
Being planned
- Attic development building 14: Beginning February 2013, completion planned for October 2013
- Attic development building 13: Beginning February 2013, completion planned for October 2013
