Seminar on open space designSEMINAR ON OPEN SPACE DESIGN

This seminar was held in the summer semester 2008 in collaboration with the Landschaftsplanungsbüro Lützow7, which had been awarded the contract for open space design through the competitive tendering process. The seminar focused on designing external works of the campus.

The aim was to enable students to recognize shaped environments, to systematize qualities of design, and to explore the relations between function requirements, requirements for use and purpose of design.

The teams participating in the seminar were assigned the task of redesigning external works, taking into account the buildings designed by Daniel Libeskind (audimax, student residence hall and car park).

Interesting though it may seem, all teams placed great emphasis on the element of water, which was associated with freedom and scope of development. Whereas some groups of participants designed a well, others designed a brook flowing into a pond. The diverse ideas generated by the participants were reflected in a final project in the form of a small-sized model.
