Admissions Examination: Problem solving, networked thinkingADMISSIONS EXAMINATION:
PROBLEM SOLVING, NETWORKED
THINKING

The admissions exam tests an applicant’s ability to study and to meet the specific demands set at Leuphana College. We want to see how you read and evaluate texts, data, and figures, solve problems, and think analytically within a network.  No special preparation is necessary to successfully complete the exam. We will not be testing specific or general academic knowledge. Applicants with different educational levels and experiences in different academic disciplines will have the same standing for the testThe exam will be multiple choice. You can find sample tests and further information in the PDF-document at the foot of this page.

The admissions examination will include the following types of problems:

Diagrams and Tables

This type of question asks you to evaluate and interpret information relevant to economics and social sciences in the form of diagrams and tables. A brief text introduces the information and certain conclusions are presented. You will be asked which conclusions are justified based on the information given.

Logical reasoning

In these questions, a factual example, supported by statistical and quantifiable data, is presented. A series of inferences are made about the example and you are asked to judge whether they are correct. Depending on the question, you will be asked to judge relationships between units, to estimate their relative sizes and to evaluate the probable validity of certain statements about them.  (Note: statistical analysis is not required.)

Language Systems

These questions will offer statements in an imaginary language and its German translation. Afterwards individual words in the imaginary language will be presented. The assignment consists in deciphering the meaning of these fictional words as well as determining the grammatical rules of the imaginary language.

Language Sensitivity

In this type of question, you will be given a series of incomplete sentences and a list of possible words to complete them. Your task will be to decide which alternative words complete the sentences and make the most sense.
