Priority cases and admission by exceptionPRIORITY CASES AND ADMISSION
BY EXCEPTION

Priority admission

Applicants who have completed their military or civilian service are entitled to gain preferred admission if, either before or during their period of service, their chosen program of study at Leuphana University of Lüneburg was not subject to any admissions restrictions or if they were admitted to their chosen program of study either before or during their period of service. Further details on priority admission are provided in PDF format in the download section.

Initial quotas and special applications

Once all priority applicants have been considered, a specific number of places will be set aside for specific groups of applicants. Applicants falling under any of these groups compete within their respective group rather than within the general pool of applicants. The following quotas must be set aside by law:

  • Up to eight percent for foreign applicants from non-EU countries who have a foreign university entrance certificate. The following rule applies to all applicants (German and foreign applicants):  If the university entrance certificate was not earned in Germany, applications cannot be sent directly to Leuphana University, but instead must be forwarded to Uni-Assist, a service office for international university applications. Further information is available through the “International Applicants” link at the bottom of this page.
  • Up to two percent for hardship cases
Applicants falling under this category must also fill out a hardship application form (application forms are available at the bottom of the page).
  • Up to three percent for applicants seeking a second university degree. Applications must be accompanied by a letter of motivation in which applicants give their general reasons for pursuing a second degree and by any relevant documentary evidence, if required, as well as by documentary evidence of having successfully completed the first degree.
  • A quota yet to be determined for applicants with professional qualifications (no more than ten percent). Admission of applicants falling under this category will be determined solely on the basis of the grade point average indicated on the university entrance certificate.

For further information on which professional qualifications are recognized as qualifications for university studies, please contact the Leuphana InfoPortal.
