Special Admissions requirements

If you wish to study at the Leuphana University you must meet the admission requirements for the study programme you choose. In case of foreign application documents (certificates, exams) your documents are pre-checked by Uni-Assist, the Application Services for International Students.
Bachelor's Degree (Major & Minor)
Applicants for the bachelor’s program comprising a major and a minor subject must meet the academic standard required for university entrance or the academic standard specifically related to the subject they wish to study.
Applicants with a university entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences must furnish proof of sufficient knowledge of the following subjects: German, mathematics technical studies, natural sciences, or arts. The average grade in two or three of these subjects must be 3.0 or better in accordance with the German scale of grades.
Applicants must prove their proficiency in English unless they are native speakers of English. Leuphana University of Lüneburg accepts the following as proof:
- Final grade of at least 3.0 in English as indicated in the certificate of university entrance qualification (in accordance with the German scale of grades)
- Internet-based TOEFL test with a minimum score of 61 points
- Paper-based TOEFL test with a minimum score of 500 points
- IELTS with a minimum score of 4.5 in the academic version of the IELTS exam
- FCE test (Cambridge First Certificate in English) with a minimum passing grade of C
- TOEIC test offered by the Foreign Language Center of Leuphana University of Lüneburg with an equivalent score.
Applicants should prove their proficiency in English upon applying. Candidates who cannot produce any of the above proofs, will be admitted only for a limited period of time. They must submit any of the above test certificates by the end of the second semester at the latest.
Bachelor's Degree (Teacher Education)
Applicants for the program in Teacher Education for Primary, Secondary and Vocational Schools must prove that they meet the academic standard required for university entrance or the academic standard specifically related to the subject they wish to study. They cannot apply with a university entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences.&nb
Additional requirements for English as a subject
Applicants for the program in Teacher Education for Primary, Secondary and Vocational Schools who wish to study English as one of their subjects must prove knowledge of the English language by passing any of the following tests:
- Internet-based TOEFL test with a minimum score of 79 points
- Paper-based TOEFL test with a minimum score of 550 points
- IELTS with a minimum score of 5.7
- CAE test (Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English) with a minimum passing grade of B
The test results may not be older than two years upon applying. They must be submitted along with the other application documents.
Additional requirements for Physical Education as a subject:
Applicants who wish to study Physical Education must prove their aptitude by passing a test. To participate in the test, applicants must send a written application to Leuphana University. Application deadline is June 20.
Additional requirements for Music as a subject:
Applicants for the subject of Music must pass an entrance examination. The application deadline is April 30. The test will be conducted at the beginning of June.
Self-assessment:
Applicants for Teacher Education for Primary, Secondary and Vocational Schools are asked to do an Internet-based self-assessment test. This test helps you to get a more realistic insight into the working life of teachers and the demands placed on them as well as to find out if you are suitable for this job. Please print out the confirmation of your participation upon completion of the test and add it to your application documents.
- Open the www.cct-germany.de website (see link below) and click the “Pupil” button (even if you are already studying at university or working.
- Go to "Guided Tour" and do Tour 1 completely. Use a code name and add "Leuphana."
Please note: The test results do not affect decisions in the admissions procedure.
