Systematic Perspectives: The COMPLEMENTARY Studies Program

The demands that our rapidly developing scientific community places on young scholars are high. It is expected that they are able to engage with complex problems.
In order to meet these demands appropriately, the Leuphana Bachelor program focuses on interdisciplinary and problem-oriented teaching strategies. The principle idea hereby demanded is to be able to act as a generalist, who has acquired their expertise from the theoretical as well as practical experience in their specialization.
The comprehensive studies program follows this idea and is required component of the Leuphana Bachelor. Students encounter and critically engage with unfamiliar scholarly modes of thought, in order to understand how different disciplines pose questions and find answers. In the comprehensive studies program, students receive a global and multi-layered view on cross-disciplinary topic areas.
The comprehensive studies program is divided into six different perspectives, in which a variety of courses are offered. These can be taken beginning in the second semester.
The Perspectives
- Art and Aesthetics
- Methods and Models
- Nature and Technology
- Projects and Praxis
- Language and Culture
- Understanding and Changing
