Major Business Information Systems

Bachelor´s Degree in Business Information Systems
Modern information and communications technologies are becoming ever more extensive and complex, even as they are being used by ever more people. No business can survive today without technical information systems. Yet each business has its own demands depending on its structure, scale and organization. This is why there has been and continues to be a high demand for experts, who are educated especially in the challenges that working with information systems brings.
The Major in Business Information Systems constitutes its own field of knowledge, which has developed from the combination of information technology, communication and business administration. At Leuphana the "IWI" major allows students to specialize in business information systems.
Students acquire a fundamental understanding of the field of programming, computer architecture and operating systems, data banks, software technology data structures and algorithms as well as theoretical computer sciences.
If you select business information systems as your concentration, you will become specialized in the application of computer science to business administrative questions. In particular you will be concerned with the topic of application development and internet technology as well as specialized topics in business information systems. Students acquire basic qualifications so that you can develop and apply computer science concepts to the practical business environment.
As a graduate of the major you will have earned the Leuphana Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.).
Educational goals
Students majoring in business information systems are trained to become experts in the conception and implementation of technological solutions. In addition, they must be able to translate the solutions they develop into the language of ordinary users and to anticipate future requirements early on. The development of communicative and social skills is therefore particularly important—they are an integral component of the Bachelor degree at Leuphana.
Prospects
Graduates of the major in business information systems understand how to analyze, plan, design and develop complex business and administrative information systems. The Leuphana Bachelor qualifies them for advanced Masters programs in their respective concentration—not only in Germany, but also in many places throughout the world.
The program prepares students for a wide range of activities oriented toward the computer sciences as well as in business administrative fields. Business computer scientists work, for example, as systems analysts or as consultants for business that need to design more efficient information and communication systems. They can also be active in the field of software development and marketing or develop innovative solutions for research departments to improve technical infrastructures.
