The Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences

Natural resources are dwindling continuously. As a consequence of economic and social development, many energy sources have been tapped beyond their ability to regenerate in the last 200 years.  Prospective environmental scientists analyze the causes of environmental problems in terms of the economic and social behavior of people, in order to develop new sustainable solutions.

The environmental sciences major concentrates on the methods and technologies that make it possible to integrate the ecological, economical and social needs of a society, so that sustainable, lasting, viable and long-term intelligent development is made possible.  Students investigate problems from the perspectives of various mutually complementary subfields—for example from sociological, ecological and economic perspectives. The degree program uses as its foundation the methodological approaches of the natural and social sciences  At the same time you acquire communication and design skills, work with models and statistics, but also conduct research in a laboratory or on site.

Environmental scientists in Lüneburg learn to explain and evaluate global climactic and environmental problems with knowledge gained in the natural sciences. They learn also to understand social values, guiding principles and behavioral patterns that cause such problems.
