An experienced Partner - the Klosterkammer of Hannover

As one of the oldest institutions in Lower Saxony with a rich tradition, the Klosterkammer Hannover is closely bound with the region's history.
The Klosterkammer was founded in 1818 to manage convent properties that had been secularized and taken over by the state during the Reformation. Elizabeth von Calenberg-Göttigen, Duchess of Brunswick and Lüneburg (1510-1548), made the original decision to separate the management of the convent endowment between church and state when she issued a new convent order in 1542. In the spirit of the Reformation, she decreed that the endowment should be dedicated to supporting the poor and the sick, as well as to fostering education and training.
Down to the present the Klosterkammer has continued its responsibilities to church communities and convents. Its voluntary efforts support church, school and social projects in Lower Saxony.
