The first step toward a doctoral degree

Application documents
You can find the application form for the doctoral program, along with full instructions for filing your application, in the download section below. In the appendix to the application form, you will find the form for recognizing previously completed academic work (15 ECTS credits in the fields of practice and ethics of science, philosophy of science and/or research methods).
Please send your full application (completed application form, written approval of doctoral advisor, exposé, final degree certificates indicating your final grade, proof of previously completed work equivalent to 15 ECTS credits, proof of English language test, if required) to the Student Service.
When applying for admission to the doctoral program, you can apply for admission as a part-time doctoral candidate. In this case, you are allowed up to twelve semesters instead of the traditional six to complete your doctoral studies.
Application deadlines
There are generally no application deadlines for doctoral programs. Interested students can apply at any time for the ongoing or following semester.
Admission procedure
Please hand in your complete admission documents (filled in application form, advisor’s evaluation, proposal, university diploma including your grade, proof of academic performance achieved in previous degree program, proof of English language skills (if applicable), application for part-time program (if applicable)) at the Student Service. After a pre-check, your documents are forwarded to the competent doctoral commission. Usually, the doctoral commissions meet at least twice a semester and decide on the admissions. The current doctoral commissions are presented on the Graduate School website Doctorate / Academic Jurisdictions.
