MENTS BEFORE YOU APPLY

The master's degree programs (major) at Leuphana Graduate School are subject to general admission requirements and special academic prerequisites. Please check whether you fulfil these requirements. There are no admission requirements for the minors in Educational Sciences.

You can find extra information about the admission requirements for the Master in Teaching in the Master in Teaching section.

First university degree and grades

A general admission requirement for applicants to the Leuphana Master’s program is to demonstrate your qualification by holding a distinguished bachelor’s degree or any equivalent. A distinguished bachelor’s degree implies that you have earned a minimum grade of 2.5. Students of law (holding a state examination degree) must have completed their studies with a minimum of 7.5 points.

If, at the time of your application for a master’s program, you have not yet completed your bachelor’s degree, you must demonstrate that you have successfully completed 81% of the course requirements (i.e. a minimum of 145 credit points) and that you have a grade point average of at least 2.5, calculated on the basis of your examination performance.

Discipline-specific requirements: consecutive studies and credit points

Before you apply, please check the list of consecutive disciplines available in the download section to ensure that the knowledge acquired during your bachelor's studies will be further deepened in your chosen master’s program (consecutiveness) and that you have earned the required credit points (according to ECTS) in the respective disciplines. As part of the admission procedure, the admissions committee in charge decides upon your qualification on the basis of your transcript of records.

English language skills

Demonstrating sufficient English language skills is a further requirement. You can prove your language abilities in various ways:

  • by passing the paper-based TOEFL test with a minimum score of 550 points
  • by passing the TOEIC test with a minimum of 750 points*
  • by passing the IELTS 6.0 test
  • by passing the Cambridge Advanced Certificate of English (CAE) exam at grade B
  • by studying a semester at a university with English as the exclusive language of instruction and by submitting a certification of successful completion of studies**
  • by passing the Internet-based TOEFL test with a minimum score of 80 points

These certifications should not be older than four years. Applicants whose native language is English do not need to provide such a certification.

* The fee for a TOEIC test taken at Leuphana's Foreign Language Center may be reimbursed. For more information on the conditions for reimbursement, please see the “Information regarding your application” document in the download section below.
