The entrance requirements listed here apply for the Master's in teaching.

Degree Qualifications

As a general entrance qualification for the Leuphana Master's you must demonstrate that you have earned a Bachelor's degree or its equivalent. This includes that you completed the degree with a grade point average of at least 2.5.

If you have not yet fully completed your degree at the time of your application, then you must demonstrate that you have successfully completed 81% of the requirements (a minimum of 145 credits) and that you have maintained a grade point average of 2.5 or better.

If your final grade point average does not meet the required threshold, you may receive bonus points for above average grades in up to three modules (a total of 15 credits) in the following fields:

  • For the Master's degree in teaching in primary and secondary schools: Modules in your professional field or in the two instructional subjects.
  • For the Vocational Degree Programs: Modules in your academic field (e.g. social education), in your professional field (business and professional education) or in the two instructional subjects.

If you received a grade of "very good" for a module, then you may receive 0.2 bonus points, for module with a grade of "good" you would receive 0.1 bonus points. For more labor-intensive modules (10 or 15 credit points) you will receive additional bonus points. In this manner, you may receive a maximum of 0.6 bonus points (3 x 0.2).

Consecutive Degree Program

The consecutive Master’s program builds on the student’s previous academic studies by focusing specifically on teaching in the classroom. In the Master’s program for teaching in Primary and Secondary Schools, as well as Intermediate Schools, you will continue your studies in Educational Sciences and your two instructional subjects from your Bachelor’s degree. In the Master’s for teaching in Vocational Schools you will develop your instructional subjects, your vocational discipline and the foundations of professional and business education that you acquired during your earlier Bachelor’s studies.

Additional requirements for Primary, Secondary and Intermediate Schools:

For the Master’s degree in Primary, Secondary and Intermediate Schools you must show that you have successfully completed the general school internship (a minimum of 6 weeks) and a social work or business internship, in addition to the Bachelor’s degree.

German Language Skills

Applicants who do not have a German university entrance qualification nor a degree from a  German university must demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the German language. You will find the exact requirements in the guidelines of the Lüneburg University under the link for the German Language Examination.
