Earning a Ph.D. While Raising a Child
The Leuphana University Lüneburg sets a high value on the compatibility of family, work and studies. Therefore, we support parents in their academic career with various qualified day care initiatives for children of different ages.
Earning a Ph.D. in Part-Time
There are life situations in which full-time study is not possible. Leuphana therefore offers its students in the College and the Graduate School the possibility to complete their degree part-time. Anyone, for example, who needs to combine their education with employment, family, social or university commitments, or who is unable to study full time because of a serious illness or handicap, can complete their degree part time.
In the context of the semi-structured Ph.D. program, it is possible to apply for the status of part-time student after having been accepted into the Ph.D. program. In this case, you would complete your Ph.D. as rule in twelve rather than six semesters. The Lower Saxony tuition fees do not apply during this period, however the semester fees amount at the present to 250 Euros per semester (including semester ticket).
A part-time program of study at the Leuphana Graduate School entails that you extend the normal workload for one semester onto two semesters. Please note that we cannot offer extra evening and weekend courses for part-time students. Courses are at times offered in a block format or in a weekly cycle distributed over varying days of the week.
Student advisors can give you information and advice about starting a part-time program of study. They will also continue to provide help and advice during your studies.
