EducationEDUCATION

The Master's program in Education encompasses all the university's graduate-level academic departments. Students have a choice between the following options:

  • The strongly research-oriented Master of Arts (M.A.) in Educational Sciences, with a minor in social education or organizational educational processes.

or one of the four Master's programs for teachers with both a theoretical and practical orientation. These degree programs culminate in a Master of Education (M. Ed.):

  • Teacher Training for Primary and Secondary Schools
  • Teacher Training for Intermediate Schools (Realschulen)
  • Teacher Training for Vocational Schools, concentrating in social education
  • Teacher Training for Vocational Schools, concentrating in business economics

Students enrolled in the M.A. in Educational Sciences may choose a minor so as to expand their academic interests and to enter new fields of research and teaching. They can choose between the minor in organizational educational processes or the minor in social education. Independent of their concentration, each student will participate in an ongoing teaching-learning research project throughout their studies. Through their involvement with this research project, students will have the opportunity to become intensively engaged with an educational discipline of their choice.

The M.Ed. curriculums are organized so as to combine Bachelor and Master degrees in accordance with the European-wide Bologna process. Their specific goal is to satisfy the teacher training requirements for Lower Saxony. The two-semester Master's program in the primary and secondary schools (including secondary modern schools, i.e. Realschulen) includes two instructional subjects and educational preparation in a vocational field. Students preparing to teach in primary and secondary schools must select a concentration at either the primary or secondary school level. Leuphana's selection of Master's programs in education also includes a four-semester program in teacher training for vocational schools with a concentration in either business economics or social education.
