Our own research focuses on ecosystem functions. Ecosystem functions are processes and functions which are provided and maintained by ecosystems. We primarily investigate those ecosystem functions that are provided by animals, but also include functions provided by other organisms, such as carbon fixation and nutrient cycling. We further study the interactions between global climate change or land conversion and ecosystem functions and diversity. Our model organisms are bees. We investigate their functions in food webs and in the pollination of various wild plants and cultivated crops.
The working group ‘Ecosystem Functions’ was established in April 2010 as part of the Institute of Ecology ( Faculty of Sustainability, Leuphana University).
