Key Note Speakers

Every year the LCE invities internal and external Key Note Speakers to present their research and experiences to a wider audience in order to contribute to and benefit from the general objective of knowledge transfer and interaction between peers and colleagues. This year the conference was opened by Prof. Silke Tegtmeier and Prof. Markus Reihlen, stressing the importance of an interdisciplinary approach in order to solve so-called "wicked challenges". 

Furthermore, highlights of this year's conference were the Key Note Speeches of three international researchers who addressed diverse topics regarding the main theme. Prof. h.c. Per Davidsson (Queensland University of Technology, Australia and Honorary Doctor of the Faculty of Business and Economics, Leuphana University) explained, how business ideas emerge and stressed the importance of special external factors, the so-called "external enablers". Prof. Jay Mitra (Essex Business School, U.K.) presented the coherence of Entrepreneurship and migration, stating that migrants founded more businesses in their emigration country than the average person in that country. Prof. Marco van Gelderen (VU University Amsterdam) introduced research results about influence factors on entrepreneurial action and stressed that a balanced "mindfulness" that combines a concentrated focus on the project as well as a professional distance is of special importance. Finally, Florian Hoffmann ("The DO School") provided valuable advice for successful business venturing.

Discussion & Pitch Competition

The transition from research to practice was a discussion with André Friedrich (Jungheinrich AG, Head of Digital Solutions). He answered the audience's questions regarding the conference theme and explained which challenges Jungheinrich faces. In order to solve them, he stressed the importance of entrepreneurial mindsets and actions.

Another fundamental part of the annual conference is the Elevator Pitch Competition. A selected number of students of the Masters Programme "Management & Entrepreneurship" get the opportunity to present their business idea within two minutes in front of a distinguished jury with representatives from both science and economy. This year the business ideas ranged from a foldable stool named "Pappklapp" or a modular Advent calendar named "Calendeau" to a technical optimization of waste disposal by measuring filling volumes of bins ("Trashover"). Members of the jury were Andrea Japsen (Leuphana), Dr. Tobias Priesing (Sparkasse Hannover), André Friedrich (Jungheinrich AG) as well as Stephen Struwe-Ramoth (NBank).

With the kind support of the NBank yet again, the following teams convinced the jury and audience with their presentation and were able to win 500 Euro each: 

Jury-Award - Team „Shinprotex“ developed individually adjustable, but also affordable shin guards for amateur footballers.

Audience Award - Team „We Gamble“, an online platform on which private bets can be organized. 

Workshops

Another highlight of the conference are various workshops about entrepreneurship, ranging from Gamification or Social Media Strategies up to entrepreneurial personalities. The workshops were designed with strong practice partners, for instance the MLP AG. Using the creative method "Design Thinking", Leuphana students developed innovative products and services for them that matched changing customer needs in a digitalized world.
