Leuphana Conference on
„Entrepreneurship and Global Challenges“
The Leuphana Conference on Entrepreneurship (LCE) is an annually held international conference at the Leuphana University in Lueneburg, Germany with about 300 participants, from students to alumni, researchers and practitioners to other representatives from different industries.
In January 2017, the conference objective seeks to explore the reciprocal relationship between the entrepreneur and global challenges in our world. Under the conference theme „Entrepreneurship and Global Challenges“ the conference intends to embrace the broad variety of topics on the edge of entrepreneurship and global challenges such as globalization, digitization, refugee crisis, climate change, demographic change, poverty and innovation.
The Leuphana Conference on Entrepreneurship has been praised for its innovative teaching and invites researchers, entrepreneurs, financiers, practitioners, policy makers and students to use our first class event to exchange opinions or to find new inspiration. In 2014 again, Leuphana University was confirmed as Germany’s start-up friendliest university in the category of middle-sized higher education institutions.
LCE 2016 Summary
Every year LCE invites internal and external Key Note Speakers to present their research and experiences to a wider audience in order to contribute to and benefit from the general objective of knowledge transfer and interaction between peers and colleagues.
In 2016 the key notes of Professor Jay Mitra (Essex Business School) and Professor Jeffrey York (University of Colorado, Boulder, U.S.A) were among the highlights of the conference. They mainly discussed sustainable entrepreneurship in context of economy and ecology. In addition, Anna Kaiser from „tandemploy.com“, a start-up business from the EXIST IV programme, gave insights about founding the first online full-service jobsharing agency worldwide.
Every year the LCE also invites current students of the Leuphana Master Programme "Management and Entrepreneurship" to participate in the Elevator Pitch Competition. A selected number of students are encouraged to form business teams and develop a business idea which then will be presented in front of a distinguished jury with representatives from both science and economy.
With the kind support of Nbank, who offered monetary awards to the winners, the following teams could convince the jury with their presentations in 2016:
Jury Award - Team „Mey Go“ designed re-usable, refillable silicone food pouches.
Audience Award - Team „Welcome and Learning Center“, a Welcome Centre for refugees.
Social Business Award - Team „Fruitloop“ established a network for fruit picking.
