Terms and conditions

1. General requirements

Participants must be at least 18 years old.

2. Arrival

2.1 The University must be informed well in advance if a participant plans to arrive after the first day of the ISU.

2.2 The University may find another student to replace any participant who fails to inform the University of his/her late arrival. In the case of replacement, the University is entitled to withhold at least 50 euros of the administration costs.

2.3 If no replacement can be found, the participant is still allowed to enrol for a course. However, the participant remains obliged to pay the full amount for the course.

3. Admission to courses / number of participants

3.1 The final decision on admission to a particular course level will be based on a proficiency test held on the first day of the ISU.

3.2 Courses are designed for approx. 15 participants.

4. Legal eequirements / insurance

4.1 The University presupposes that participants enter Germany with a proper visa.


4.2 Each participant is responsible for his/her own health, accident, and liability insurance. The University is not liable for any costs incurred by a participant without adequate insurance coverage. The application and the course fees do not include health insurance. Therefore, health and accident insurance covering medical treatment in Germany must already be taken out in the home country. This does not apply to participants from countries that have signed the "Treaty on Health Care Abroad" with Germany. Participants are also advised to purchase travel and luggage insurance coverage.

4.3 Participants are obliged to respect the course and University regulations.

5. Terms of payment

5.1 Upon receipt of the application, a letter of acceptance will be sent to applicants who fulfil the requirements, providing that the course is not full yet. This letter contains information about the period within which payment of tuition fees must be made.

5.2 If payment has not been effected within the period stipulated or has not been made in full, the participant will not be admitted to the course.

5.3 In this case the University is entitled to claim the full amount of the tuition fees plus interest.

6. Withdrawal of application

6.1 In case a participant withdraws his/her application, the following terms of payment will become effective:
If an application is withdrawn at least four weeks before the Summer University begins, tuition fees will be refunded in full. The application fee of 50 euros will not be refunded.
If an application is withdrawn at least one week before the Summer University begins, 60% of the tuition fees will be refunded. The application fee of 50 euros will not be refunded.
If an application is withdrawn at least one day before the Summer University begins, 40% of the tuition fees will be refunded.
The application fee of 50 euros will not be refunded.
No refund will be made if participants do not show up or quit early.

6.2 Withdrawal will be effective from the date on which the University receives notice.

6.3 The University may cancel courses or the entire Summer University if the number of participants is insufficient. If courses must be cancelled, the participants registered for these courses are entitled to withdraw their applications. In this case the tuition and application fees will be refunded in full. This also applies if the entire Summer University has to be cancelled.

7. Liability of the University

The University and its staff assume no liability for cancellations resulting from acts of God, strikes, or any other reasons beyond its control. Liability for negligence is excluded as well.

8. Data protection

The University informs the participants that personal data will be recorded electronically in order to process applications and payments and issue records of achievement. The participants agree to receive information from the University in the future.

9. Legal regulations, court of jurisdiction

9.1 This contract is subject to German law.

9.2 Place of jurisdiction is Lüneburg.
