A university for civil society in the 21st century
In the course of its reorganization in 2007, Leuphana introduced a university model unique within the German academic landscape. By spring 2009 the following new academic schools had been established:
A college at which students can obtain their first academic degree: since 2007 the Leuphana Bachelor’s program has been offering a homogeneously structured and interdisciplinary oriented program of study. It is targeted toward students who are interested in more than specialized knowledge and who enjoy working in an independent and responsible manner. View College
The Graduate School offers master’s programs with specialization in the following three thematic fields: Arts & Sciences, Management & Entrepreneurship, and Education (since 2008). The study model of the Graduate School offers graduate students the opportunity to intertwine their master’s studies with doctoral studies. View Graduate School
The school brings together programs for continuing education and knowledge transfer as well as programs for setting up a business; it thus offers optimal conditions for lifelong learning (since 2009). The Professional School is geared toward working with adults who are interested in furthering their educational goals – ranging from those who have just joined the job market to senior managers. Science initiatives focus on Education, Humanities & Social Sciences, Business & Economics, Sustainability
Our research activities are focused on four science initiatives – each with a transdisciplinary approach. To pursue its research goals, the University appointed about 50 new professors (until 2012). These new positions were added to the professorships already existing in the following areas: education, management and entrepreneurship, cultural research, and sustainability. Responsibility lies with the Faculties.
The further development of the Leuphana is based on the development plan approved by the Executive Board and the Senate in 2016 (PDF in German only).
The development plan has been established based on the recommendations by the Science Committee of Lower Saxony. To the Recommendations
