Welcome to the homepage of the UNESCO Chair “Higher Education for Sustainable Development” - housed in the Institute for Environmental & Sustainability Communication at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg.

The UNESCO Chair Programme was initiated in 1991 in order to promote international cooperation in higher education and to integrate UNESCO’s objectives into research and teaching. A major part of this programme focuses on how to integrate higher education institutions from the South into an international network. Thus, the UNESCO Chair title not only honours the Institute’s efforts that were made in the past but also implies a task for the future: to strengthen and to support the international cooperation and cross-cultural communication via global networking of higher education institutions as well as via trans-national research.
