The UNESCO Chair-Programme serves as a prime means of capacity building through the exchange of knowledge and sharing in a spirit of solidarity. Thus networking in order to develop mutual research projects plays a central role in our work. We intend to foster a global exchange of best-practice experiences as well as to provide a substantial database of the participating partner institutions.

In order to reach these goals, the following projects following projects have been initiated and conducted:
- joint proceedings of the participants of the conference «Higher Education for Sustainable Development: New Challenges from a Global Perspective» which took place in Lüneburg from September 25th to 27th 2005
- Setup of an international database including institutions of Higher Education for Sustainable Development. Please register in our database of global activities in Higher Education for Sustainable Development.
- Organisation of the second international conference on Higher Education for Sustainable Development in 2007: “World in Transition – Sustainability Perspectives for Higher Education” July 5-7, 2007 (Mexico)
- Joint Proceedings of the second international conference on Higher Education for Sustainable Development in 2007
- Realisation of an international survey regarding innovations and best-practice of Higher Education for Sustainable Development
- Launching of a periodical newsletter
- Organization of the 3rd International Conference on Higher Education for Sustainable Development. 20–22 November 2009 in Malaysia
