Inhalt:
In this seminar, we are interested in the concept of autonomous learning and the process of the development of advanced language learning skills. Students will develop and test their own strategies to improve their English. They will become familiar with some computer-based language resources and tools for learning English on the Web. Finally students will learn about and produce a language portfolio.
Ziel:
Students will be able to identify their needs in the English language and explain why these are evident and set goals to overcome them. Students will be able to select suitable materials- appropriate media, level- to meet their needs. Students will develop and use good strategies in use of the materials and critically reflect on their learning process. Students will be able to express subject matter and ideas with more clarity and accuracy.

Inhalt:
"Words, words. They're all we have to go on." - Tom Stoppard, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead Words are, in fact, often all we have to go on; they give us clues and open windows to a wide range of perceptions about human nature. Words can conceal and reveal, confuse and abuse as well as enhance and entrance. This course will take logomaniacs in search of le mot juste on a expedition to the bottom of things so that they can be on top of things. Consequently, we will examine an eclectic array of topics such as word origins and current usage; connotations and denotations; clippings and blends;homonyms, homophones, and homographs; metaphor, metonomy, and synecdoche; inclusive and exclusive language; euphemism and offensive language. The initial sessions of this course will be devoted to assisting students in acquiring vocabulary-learning techniques as well as to examining effective word formation and usage. In the subsequent sessions, students will have the opportunity to refine these skills in various practical and creative assignments.
