Applying to Leuphana College

Application Process

Prospective students holding a German university entrance qualification can use the online application to apply directly to Leuphana.
A direct application is also possible with a European Baccalaureate, an IB-Diploma or with the assessment test of a Studienkolleg. With other international qualifications please apply via uni-assist. If you have previously applied to higher education in Germany using uni-assist, you may also apply directly to Leuphana with your preliminary review documentation (VPD).
The online application is activated from mid-May for the winter semester beginning in October (first and advanced semesters) and from mid-December for the summer semester beginning in April (advanced semesters only).

Application for the first semester

The online application is open from the middle of may. The application deadline is 15 July.

Applications cannot be made outside the application period.

what can i apply for?

At Leuphana College, you can only apply for one Bachelor's programme. Applications for multiple programmes are not possible. This means that you apply either for a major-minor combination or for a teacher education programme. For the teacher education programmes, you apply either for two teaching subjects (teaching profession at primary, lower secondary and intermediate schools) or for one vocational subject and one teaching subject (teaching profession at vocational schools).

Online application procedure

When completing the application, it is advisable to have the following documents ready:

  • Certificate of higher education entrance qualification
  • If applicable, documents on extracurricular achievements
  • If applicable, documents on any previous studies (current certificate of enrolment or certificate of exmatriculation)
  • If applicable, documents on examinations taken at a German higher education institution
  • If applicable, documents on any double studies (study certificates, preliminary and intermediate examinations, etc.)
  • If applicable, documents on any periods of professional activity after acquisition of the higher education entrance qualification
  • If applicable, a copy of your identity card and of your dgti identity card if you give your first name according to the supplementary identity card of the German Society for Transidentity and Intersexuality (dgti).

After completing the data entry, you declare in lieu of an oath that the information you have given is true and you will then receive your application for admission including your application number.
You must print out this application for admission, sign it and send it to the Student Services by the deadline. The date of receipt at Leuphana counts as the deadline and not the postmark. You will receive the postal address together with the application for admission after completing the online application. Please note that you must submit the original application for admission! You must also submit all required supporting documents with the application for admission:

The list of certificates to be submitted will be displayed again at the end of the online application.

*At this stage, it is sufficient to submit a simple copy of your university admission certificate. If you are offered a place at university and accept it, you can submit a certified copy later.

What happens after I apply?

After submitting your application, you can check the status of your application online. Due to the large number of applications, personal information via e-mail or telephone is not possible.

Application for an advanced semester

The online application for the 3rd and 5th semester is open from the middle of may to 15 July (start of studies in October).
For the 2nd and 4th semester, the online application is open from the middle of December to 15 January (start of studies in April).

If you have already completed examination achievements that you would like to have credited for the continuation of your studies at the college, you can apply for a higher subject semester. The online application procedure is the same as for applications for the first semester.

However, you can only apply if you meet the admission requirements. Therefore, please inform yourself about the admission requirements of your desired study programme before applying.

Credits from previously passed examinations

After your application has been received, the creditability of the work you have already done will be assessed. Based on this assessment, you will be placed in the higher semester for which you have applied. Therefore, please submit the application for classification in addition to the application for admission.

You must send the original application for placement, as well as your application for admission, to the Student Services Office by the deadline, together with the other required documents. The date of receipt at Leuphana counts as the deadline and not the postmark.

The list of documents to be submitted is displayed again at the end of the online application.

No preliminary examination possible

Please understand that you will only receive binding information about creditability once you have been admitted. You will therefore not receive any information in advance, either by telephone or by e-mail, about the creditability of the work you have already done.

Placement in an advanced semester

The semester in which you can be placed depends on your previous examination results. As a general rule, at least 20 credit points in the form of modules eligible for recognition must be available for a semester.

Please note that only modules which are included in your Leuphana target study programme will be recognised. You will find these in the Subject-Specific Schedule. You can find the Subject-Specific Schedule on the page of the relevant Major or Minor.

Important notice

Since the number of study places offered in higher semesters depends on the number of available study places, it is advisable to apply several times, that is to say: for the 2nd, 4th and 6th semesters (for summer semesters) or the 3rd and 5th semesters (for winter semesters).

Allocation of study places

Whether you get a place of study depends on the number of available places. The award is made in accordance with the Lower Saxony University Regulations on the Award of places of study.

If you are applying for the winter semester, you cannot expect to receive a notification before mid-August at the earliest. If you are applying for the summer semester, you cannot expect to receive a decision before mid-February at the earliest.

Previously acquired credits or accomplishments

Only after you have received admission to a higher semester can you apply for the recognition of previously acquired credits or accomplishments.
