Application time-lines

For the first semester

  • until 15 January for courses of study beginning in April (summer semester)

No multiple applications

At Leuphana College you can only apply for one Bachelor's programme. It is not possible to apply for more than one programme. You apply either for a major-minor combination or for a teacher-training programme.

In the case of Teacher Training Courses, you apply either for two teaching subjects (for primary school, lower secondary and intermediate school teaching) or for one professional discipline and one teaching subject (for vocational school teaching).

Should you nevertheless send multiple applications, only the application received last by post will be considered.

Online application procedure

As part of the online application, you first enter your data for the application for a place of study. If you are a citizen of an EU/EEA country, you will take part in a selection process within the main quota. For this selection process, please enter your extracurricular activities in the online application form. Non-EU/EEA citizens are admitted via the advance and special quota. There is no additional selection process.

After completing the data entry, you will receive your application for admission including your application number.

You must print out this application form, sign it and send it to Students Services in due time. In this case, the date that Leuphana receives the letter (not the postmark) counts as the cut-off period.

You will receive the postal address together with the covering letter after completing the online application.

Please make sure that you submit a signed original application form. You must also submit all the necessary supporting documents with the application for admission.

Documents you need to complete the online application form

  • Certificate of university entrance qualification
  • Documents proving any previous studies (current certificate of enrolment or termination of enrollment certificate)
  • Documents on any examinations taken at a German higher education institution
  • Documents about a possible double study (enrolment certificates, preliminary and intermediate examinations, etc)
  • Documents on any periods of professional activity after acquisition of the higher education entrance qualification

Documents to be submitted together with the application for admission

The list of documents to be submitted will be displayed again at the end of the online application.

Application at a higher semester

If you have already passed examinations that you would like credited for continuing your studies at college, you can apply for a higher semester.

However, you can only apply if – and when – the admission requirements have been fulfilled. Therefore, please inform yourself about the entry requirements for your desired study programme before applying.

Credits from previously passed examinations

Once we have received your application, we will check the validity of your previously passed examinations. Based on this assessment, you will be placed in the higher semester for which you have applied. Therefore, please submit the application for placement in a higher semester together with your application for admission.

You must sign the recognition of equivalence, as well as your application for admission and send the original to Students Services in due time together with the other supporting documents. In this case, the date that Leuphana receives the letter (not the postmark) counts as the cut-off period.

The list of documents to be submitted will be displayed again at the end of the online application.

No preliminary examination possible

Please understand that you will only receive binding information about the recognition of equivalence together with your admission certificate. You will, therefore, not receive any information in advance, either by telephone nor e-mail, on the recognition of equivalence of the of your previously acquired credits or achievements

Placement in a higher semester

The semester in which you can be placed depends on your previous examination results. As a general rule, at least 20 credit points in the form of modules eligible for recognition must be available for a semester.

Please note that only modules which are included in your Leuphana target study programme will be recognised. You will find these in the Subject-Specific Schedule. You can find the Subject-Specific Schedule on the page of the relevant Major or Minor.

Important notice

Since the number of study places offered in higher semesters depends on the number of available study places, it is advisable to apply several times, that is to say: for the 2nd, 4th and 6th semesters (for summer semesters) or the 3rd and 5th semesters (for winter semesters).

Allocation of study places

Whether you get a place of study depends on the number of available places. The award is made in accordance with the Lower Saxony University Regulations on the Award of places of study.

If you are applying for the winter semester, you cannot expect to receive a notification before mid-August at the earliest. If you are applying for the summer semester, you cannot expect to receive a decision before mid-February at the earliest.

Previously acquired credits or accomplishments

Only after you have received admission to a higher semester can you apply for the recognition of previously acquired credits or accomplishments.
