Residence abroad
Study Ability Test
Your main place of residence is abroad? Are you engaged abroad at the time of the test or interview or are you abroad for professional reasons or language acquisition (no holidays or travel)? In these cases you can - subject to your later invitation to the Leuphana Study Ability Test - take the ITB-ASET online as a substitute for the Leuphana Study Ability Test which takes place in person.
The ITB-ASET is a general aptitude test which is carried out online with proctoring in 120 minutes. It measures mathematical skills, verbal skills, reasoning skills and the combined application of these three skills in three test sections. As with the Leuphana Study Ability Test, you cannot "train" for the test. To give you an impression of the test, you will find sample questions under "Download". Please note that you will take the test in the language of your chosen study programme. If you have applied for an English-language study programme but take the test in German, the result cannot be evaluated.
In order to participate in the ITB-ASET, you must provide proof of your commitment abroad or your place of residence. To do so, write an e-mail with your applicant number and proof of your engagement to auswahl.college@leuphana.de. For the participation in the test a fee of 150,- has to be paid. This must be transferred to the test provider ITB after registration. If this has not been received by the test day, you will not be able to take part in the test.
Information on online proctoring, the process, technical requirements and unauthorised conduct can be found on the test provider's website.
Selection interview
If you have applied for a study program for which an individual interview is held in addition to the aptitude test, you can have the interview via video conference if you are committed abroad at the time of the interview, are abroad for professional reasons or for language acquisition, or are resident abroad.
After receiving the postal invitation, register online for the video interview (you will find the link in the invitation letter) and write an e-mail at the same time to auswahl.college@leuphana.de, stating your applicant number, your study program and a proof of your studies. You will receive the access data and the time of your video interview in the reply e-mail.

Study skills test
As part of the selection process, a study aptitude test is written on-site at the Leuphana campus in all Leuphana College study programs. In some study programs, a selection interview is also conducted (see below).
The study aptitude test measures study-related cognitive abilities that are essential for successful study at Leuphana College. In this way, Leuphana University of Lüneburg would like to gain a comprehensive picture of the competencies and abilities of the applicants and enable them to acquire additional points for the admission procedure - beyond the grade of the university entrance qualification and, if applicable, extracurricular achievements - by participating.
The study aptitude test comprises three test parts: "Analyzing contexts", "Recognizing structures" and "Concentrated and careful work". For English-language study programs, the study skills test is written in English. The pure processing time is just under two hours. You cannot explicitly prepare for the test. In order to get an impression of the tasks, you will find sample tasks or explanations of the three test parts in the download area.
By taking the test, you can earn a maximum of 24 additional points. These will be added to your existing score from the HZB grade (maximum 30) and extracurricular achievements (maximum 5). In this way, a ranking list is determined, which is the basis for the admissions in stage 2. Admission letters will be sent by mail a few days after the test date.
Invitation
Approximately one week before the test date, invitations to the Study Ability Test are sent by mail. The number of applicants invited to the aptitude test depends, among other things, on the number of available study places per study program. Whether you are invited to take the aptitude test thus depends on your ranking and the size of the major or subject.
Registration
In order to confirm your participation, an online registration (for the selection process on the selection days) is mandatory. You can do this up to one day before your test day. Please refer to your invitation letter for detailed instructions. On the test day, you will receive your test documents and all other necessary information when you register on site.
Reimbursement of travel expenses
If you have to travel a long way, or if there are social reasons, part of the travel costs can be reimbursed by the university. Please refer to the travel expenses application in the download area for the exact regulations.
Selection interview
In addition to the study aptitude test, selection interviews are held in the Global Environmental and Sustainability Studies, Lehren und Lernen, Studium Individuale and Umweltwissenschaften. During the selection interviews, we would like to get to know you personally, and give you the opportunity to "score" in a personal interview.
An interview lasts approximately 20 minutes and takes place either before or after the study skills test. For English-language study programs, the interview will be conducted in English. The selection interviews are conducted in a standardized manner by interview leaders and recorded by student assistants. Following the interview, you will give a 5-minute presentation on a topic of your own choice, followed by a maximum 5-minute block for follow-up questions from the interview leader. The topic should be current and socially relevant. Bring an outline of your paper in duplicate to the selection interviews. Please refrain from preparing PowerPoint presentations. These cannot be considered.
In the selection interview (incl. presentation) you can achieve a maximum of 24 points, which will be offset against the result of the study skills test (60% interview and 40% test). These will be added to your existing score from the HZB grade (maximum 30) and those of the extracurricular achievements (maximum 5). This is how the ranking list is determined, which is the basis for the admissions in stage 2. Admission letters will be sent by mail a few days after the test date.
Invitation
With the invitation to the test day you will also receive the invitation to the interview. It will be mailed approximately one week prior to the appointment. The number of applicants invited to the interview depends, among other things, on the number of available study places per degree program. Whether you are invited to the selection interview thus depends on your ranking and the size of the study program.
Registration
To confirm your participation, online registration is mandatory. You can do this up to one day before your interview date. Please refer to your invitation letter for detailed instructions. On the selection day, you will receive all necessary documents and further information at the on-site registration.
Math test
Leuphana University of Lüneburg conducts a mathematics test for all applicants for the teaching subject Mathematics within the admission procedure for the Bachelor with teaching option (Teaching and Learning, Social Pedagogy and Business Education). The test lasts 30-45 minutes and relates to teaching content at the lower secondary level. For example, it deals with the calculation of surface areas, fractions or systems of linear equations. The purpose of this test is to determine whether the student has the necessary subject knowledge to enter a bachelor's degree program with a teaching option for the subject of mathematics. Participation in the mathematics test is possible independently of an invitation to the study ability test. A separate invitation is not issued.
In order to participate in the mathematics test, you must register in advance. The registration will be activated at the same time as the registration for the selection procedure. A total of 24 points can be achieved. The result of the test is offset against the result from the study aptitude test (50% study aptitude test and 50% mathematics test). If you take the mathematics test as part of the "Teaching and Learning" study program, the score will be offset against the selection interview (40% study ability test and mathematics test & 60% selection interview).
To prepare for the mathematics test, we will provide you with sample problems. In addition, you can participate in the online mathematics bridge course free of charge.
