The event is organised by the student initiative Arbeitskreis Ungeduld & Theorie. All interested parties are cordially invited.

Condemnation and reification are two central terms in the vocabulary of current critical theories. Damnation, the othering, the exclusion of the other, is used in postcolonial theorisation - based on the work of Frantz Fanon - for the critical analysis of the description of the condition of the colonised subject. Reification is a key term of critical theory that refers back to Marx and addresses the objectified relationship of all social subjects. Both terms claim a diagnosis of a false condition. In their conception and reception, however, they are by no means in a smooth relationship to each other. We would like to explore some divergences and convergences of critical theorising on the basis of this conflictual constellation around condemnation and reification. What is the critical potential of the analysis of the damned?
What perspective does the focus on reified relations open up? And above all, what contradictions arise from critical diagnoses today as they did then?

Info:
The event series accompanies a reading circle in which Frantz Fanon's work "The Damned of the Earth" is read and at the same time the lesser known 'Jewish' reception of the work by Jean-Améry, Albert Memmi and Hannah Arendt is thematised.
