Can creative thought be modelled and translated into machine forms of intelligence? In this lecture, UC Berkeley Professor Dr. David Bates will elaborate on the reductive approach to creative thought that frequently governs contemporary artificial intelligence discourses. Drawing on his research about the relationship between technology, science, and the history of human cognition, this talk will discuss the human cognitive capacity for self-interruption and disruption and its quintessential role in creativity.
