David McAllister guest at the European Centre for Advanced Studies

2020-08-26 The Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament and former Prime Minister of Lower Saxony informed himself at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg about the cooperation between Scottish and Lower Saxony universities

During his visit, David McAllister emphasized the special importance of the European Centre for Advanced Studies (ECAS) in Lüneburg, a joint institution of the University of Glasgow and Leuphana University Lüneburg. With the ECAS, founded in 2019, both universities want to pursue common interests in research and teaching in the fields of digital culture and media, business informatics, law, management, sustainability and psychology. ECAS also aims to promote the formation of networks and strategic partnerships and thus serves as a platform for Scottish-Lower Saxony projects.

Prof. Dr. Jörg Philipp Terhechte, Academic Director of ECAS and Vice President of Leuphana, was very pleased about the visit of the representative of the EU Parliament: "We are particularly pleased that David McAllister has come to see our activities here and signaled his support for ECAS," said Terhechte. David McAllister emphasized the important bridging function that the ECAS has for a strategic cooperation between Scotland and Lower Saxony: "I am sure that the ECAS will play an important role in strengthening academic cooperation between Scotland and Lower Saxony in the next few years, especially in view of Brexit.”

McAllister was particularly impressed by the plans to establish a Scottish-German fellowship program. Such an exchange could make a decisive contribution to the further development of relations between Scotland and Lower Saxony.
