Doctorate & Practice

Are you doing your doctorate and already know that you do not want to pursue an academic career after your doctorate? Would you like to gain practical insights and establish contacts with companies during your doctorate?

The Graduate School and the Cooperation Service of Leuphana University offer you numerous opportunities to gain practical experience already in your doctoral phase. For example, you have the opportunity to acquire skills for non-university practice in our workshops. Perhaps there, you will discover that you possess more entrepreneurial spirit than you previously suspected - regardless of whether you are doing a doctorate in humanities, have taken the natural sciences route or are already dealing with economic aspects. We invite you to participate in our transfer events to get in touch with practice partners from the region in a relaxed atmosphere and thus build your own network. We also offer you the opportunity to reflect on your career planning through coaching or to develop your idea for a start-up in foundation consulting.

The offers of the Graduate School and the Cooperation Service are listed below - please feel free to contact the respective contact persons.

GradSkills

In the GradSkills portal you will find all the service, advice and qualification offers of the Leuphana University institutions that support you in your non-academic and university career planning. In this way, you can prepare yourself for a career in the academic community as well as for a science-based activity in industry and society.

Transfer events

Meet (doctoral) Leuphana alumni and experts with practical experience at various transfer and networking events on campus and online:

  • "Leuphana Transformational Entrepreneurship Days (online)", 21-23 September 2021: Over three days, entrepreneurship researchers and supporters from all over Europe will be gathered virtually. The workshops of the interactive event provide impulses for promoting the societal impact of "Entrepreneurship Research" (Day 1), "Entrepreneurship Teaching" (Day 2) and "Entrepreneurship Practice" (Day 3).

  • "From PhD to Innovator", 23-24 September 2021: How much of an entrepreneur am I? How can I turn my doctoral thesis into a business idea? Find out in the digital workshop of "Young Entrepreneurs in Science".

  • "Career Day", February 2022: Every year in February, the Career Day takes place, which is organised by participants of the certificate programme.

Certificate programme

In the Graduate School's certificate programme "Leadership in Society and Economy", you can benefit as a doctoral student as well as a doctoral graduate from insights into fundamental business and decision-making processes in organisations and companies and expand your competences for entering a career in the non-university sector. The application for the next round is possible until the 15th of January 2021.

Individual counselling services

The Graduate School and the Cooperation Service also offers individual counselling on various topics.

If you have any questions in the decision-making process for a doctoral programme, you can make an individual appointment with one of the counsellors of the Graduate School. If you need support with regard to your competence development and your career planning after your doctorate, the Graduate School is also there to advise you.
