With the chat service Rocket.Chat all members of the university can communicate with each other in real time and exchange texts, files and links. The contents of the chat remain available afterwards. Rocket.Chat is a platform of the Leuphana University and therefore not subject to data protection laws and is non-commercial.

After you have registered for Rocket.Chat (see below) you can write and receive personal messages from individual participants as well as create and subscribe to private and (university) public groups. At Rocket.Chat these groups are called "channels". Both private and public channels can be configured so that either all members of the group/channel, only certain members or only you have write permission.

Another feature of Rocket.Chat is the ability to have video chats, even with a group of participants. This feature is supported by the provider, an open source project with encrypted data transfer.

You can use Rocket.Chat as an application (without installation) in your browser or install it as a small program (client) on your computer, tablet or smartphone. The best functionality is currently offered by the client for Windows, Linux or MacOS (download link below).

To use the service with your Leuphana account, you need to unlock your account in the self-service portal before the first login (instructions see below).

The MIZ instructions for using Rocket.Chat can be found here (Intranet).

You can easily unlock your Leuphana account for yourself. To do this, log in with your account at and select "Profiles" from the navigation bar. In the tab "Permissions" you will find the service Rocket.Chat. Put a checkmark in the service and at the end of the page the question "Conditions read and accepted?" also with a checkmark. Then press the button "Change permission".

You then register for with your account either in your browser at the web address or with the installed program/client. Important: When using the client, you must enter the server address once before logging in. To do this, press the "+" on the left in the navigation bar (on the computer) or enter as the server URL. On the smartphone press the button "Connect to a server" and add this address there. Then you can log in with your Leuphana account. So you can contact all unlocked users and create your own groups/channels. Your login is usually saved so that you do not have to register again in the future.

The programme for Windows, Linux and MacOs for download can be found here. For Android and iPhone please visit the PlayStore or AppStore.
