The idea of Graduate Community

The Graduate School creates new educational horizons

The Leuphana Graduate School is based on the Anglo-American model of graduate education: We understand Masters and Doctoral Degrees as merging, interlocking and mutually inspiring phases with steadily growing research shares. Therefore, it is our goal to bring together masters and doctoral students in different formats. A prominent example is the Doctoral Track, which is offered in all Masters programmes of our Graduate School.

Creating spaces

In a gallery talk at the Graduate School on the topic of "Graduate Spirit" in 2019, the CEO of the German-American Fulbright Commission, Dr. Oliver Schmidt, coined the term "Creating Spaces". Create new spaces and bring together people who would otherwise never have met – this is what the Leuphana Graduate School as an institution offers its students.

We implement this mission within various formats:

  •     The Masters Kick-off as an annual, two-day kick-off event for all new masters students with perspective workshops, alumni slams and a joint breakfast for all programmes.
  •     Exciting discussion formats focusing on current ideas and possible innovations in university education – most recently within the framework of our anniversary series The Future of Graduate Education.
  •     The offer of professional and independent counsellingand coaching for masters and doctoral students under the umbrella of the Graduate School
  •     The PhD Day, which brings doctoral students and practice partners together at a one-day event (first planned for WiSe 20/21)

Open doors

... and last but not least the team of the Graduate School: staff members who are the local contact persons for the needs of masters students and doctoral candidates. Together with the International Office you will find us in the Graduate House (Building 14). Our doors are open.
