History

The department of social and cultural history is engaged with describing social processes of socialization in their historical context. This enables, above all, a view to historical transformation processes as they are manifested in structures and also biographies.

Cultural history is not only concerned with describing cultural processes in history, but also with regarding history from a specific perspective that in the broadest sense deals with historical forms of meaning and sense with which societies have been furnished in the past. While social history focuses on the meaning of social structures, cultural history brings the individual to the fore, so that politics can be examined from a cultural-historical perspective, for example.

In this unit, special emphasis is placed of the media history of the 19th and 20th century.
