Global Europe Lab: 3rd Workshop on "Peace, Security, and the international Order"

On 16 and 17 March, we held the third workshop of the Global Europe Lab (link). This collaborative project, run in partnership with theBundeskanzler-Helmut-Schmidt-Stiftung, brings together academics, policy advisers, representatives from ministries, and journalists to reflect jointly on the future of Europe on the global level, and to develop a policy paper on the subject. 

During the workshop, we explored the themes of international order, peace and security. Engaging and insightful discussions were held with DrTobias Scholz(Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik), Professor Dr Christopher R. Rossi (Arctic University of Norway), former Ambassador and UN Special EnvoyMartin Kobler, and Dr Jens Jokisch (Bertelsmann Stiftung/Auswärtiges Amt). Topics discussed included the multipolarity on the global level, the erosion of the rules-based international order, and the ambitions of the great powers (including Großraum politics). Most importantly, we discussed theEuropean Union's potential future role as a global actor. 

The event concluded with a visit to the former home of Helmut and Loki Schmidt, serving as a reminder that the future must take into account the lessons of the past.
