About the faculty

The Faculty of Business and Economics has been in existence for more than ten years and is the academic home of around 3.000 Bachelor and Master students and doctoral candidates, 66 professors and 65 researchers from the fields of business administration, business education, business informatics, economics, engineering, psychology and law. The interrelations between the disciplines are very important to the members of the faculty. This importance is expressed through the interdisciplinary study programs as well as the manifold cross-departmental research efforts of its members.

The researchers of the Faculty of Business and Economics work on core challenges of our time such as digitalization, demographic change and climate change. They provide a profound scientific and application-oriented education that conveys responsible thinking and acting. The Faculty of Business and Economics contributes to the transfer of knowledge and economic development in the North German region.

This approach is reflected in our vision and mission, our understanding of entrepreneurship as well as in the memberships of the Faculty of Business and Economics.

Our approach

We are known as a leading interdisciplinary institution for reflecting on responsibility and social challenges in research and teaching.

In research and teaching, we combine disciplinary and interdisciplinary strengths to advance knowledge, entrepreneurial thinking, and responsible action and management for business and society.

Our understanding of entrepreneurship

We understand entrepreneurship as a key competence to identify, seize and create opportunities that challenge existing and often unquestioned structures and thus create economic, ecological or social added value. Entrepreneurship expresses itself in the form of projects. These can include, for example, the establishment of a start-up, but also the implementation of an innovation in an existing organization. The aim of such projects is to solve practical problems and gain new insights.
