Studies & Teaching

What differentiates studying at the Faculty of Business and Economics from the many other study courses in economics in Germany?

A study program that makes a difference!

Leuphana University Lüneburg and the Faculty of Business and Economics have the goal of promoting the entrepreneurial thinking and acting of their graduates in order to tackle social challenges in a responsible and innovative way. In line with our vision and mission, major social issues such as digitization and sustainability are systematically addressed in research and teaching, and students are equipped with the necessary tools to live and realize new forms of business.

Interested in looking beyond disciplinary boundaries?

Interdisciplinarity is a characteristic feature of the Faculty of Business and Economics' study programs, which is not only emphasized in the project-related, discipline-crossing Leuphana Semester. The wide range of possible combinations of different minor and major programs is a unique selling point of the Bachelor's program. Currently, students can choose from 131 combinations. This versatility leaves room for individual interests and specialization and is cited by our students as a decisive argument for their studies here.

The Master's programs of the Faculty of Business and Economics are also characterized by their high degree of interdisciplinarity. Contents of management theory are systematically linked with the disciplines of data science, engineering, entrepreneurship, psychology as well as (sustainable) accounting and finance. This orientation is also clearly reflected in the Master Public Economics, Law & Politics, which combines economic, legal and political science perspectives in one study program. The Master of Management & Sustainable Accounting and Finance also integrates business administration and management theory with social and environmental aspects.

Study locally - learn to think globally!

Studying at the Faculty of Business and Economics opens up international perspectives. Most of our major and master programs offer courses in English or are completely in English. Our students are explicitly encouraged to spend their third semester abroad and can count on vigorous support from the International Office. In addition, there are international study programs that enable Master students to study at our partner universities within their curriculum: the LL.M. International Economic Law in cooperation with the Universities of Glasgow and Bridgetown, the International Joint Master of Research in Work and Organizational Psychology with the Universities of Valencia and Maastricht, and the MSc International Management with the University of Cranfield.

Practical projects and research instead of pure text study!

The Faculty of Business and Economics specifically prepares students for working life. Our professors know what they are talking about, a significant number of them have several years of work experience, e.g. from leading positions in management consulting, management and controlling in international companies as well as in public administration. The clear practical relevance is demonstrated by the fact that Leuphana University was awarded the title of the most start-up-friendly university for the third year in a row. This title is expressed, for example, in the annual Conference on Entrepreneurship, where the best student start-up idea is honored in addition to exciting lectures and workshops. The application orientation is also reflected in the curricula of the study programs, which directly link to the business world with guest lectures, case studies and practical projects. Our students also have the opportunity to write their Bachelor or Master thesis in cooperation with a company or practice partner - an enriching experience for both sides!

The second pillar of the curricula is the explicit research orientation of our programs. We see our students as young scientists, whom we prepare specifically to shape social and economic challenges with their research. This understanding is reflected, for example, in the teaching research projects: Here, students carry out research on topics from the entire thematic spectrum of their study program and go through all phases of research from literature research, presentations, organization of workshops, discussions, surveys, application of project planning methods to data collection and evaluation.

Not interested in mass events?

Leuphana University Lüneburg is a modern campus university with short distances and excellent study conditions. Close supervision, small, interactive learning groups and designated student learning spots form the framework of the study program here.

Our students also gain valuable experience and insights through their involvement in one of the more than 150 student initiatives. These initiatives offer e.g. student management consulting, deal with financial and economic topics, (social) entrepreneurship or are interested in crypto-currencies and ethical questions of business. In addition, students can participate in the committees of the academic self-administration and the Faculty Student Councils to actively shape their teaching and learning conditions.
