TOEIC FAQ

Is the TOEIC Listening and Reading Test the only one that qualifies for the admission requirement?

No. A complete list of all of the accepted tests can be found at Admission Requirements for Leuphana College  and Admission Requirements for Leuphana Graduate School   as well as Continuing Education, Professional School.

Why does the TOEIC Listening and Reading Test not count for English-language Majors?

The TOEIC Listening and Reading Test tests the passive language skills, such as listening comprehension and reading comprehension.

All English-language courses of study also require proof of proficiency in the language skills “Speaking” and “Writing.”

Why do I need proof of English proficiency for a German-language program?

English has become the “lingua franca” of the business world. Many scientific and academic articles are written in English. This is why, before beginning your studies, you are required to provide proof of passive English skills.

How can I prepare for the test?

  • There is a wide range of materials, including sample tests, available for your use in the Self-Access Center (C 5.104) and in the TOEIC reserved reading material in the library.
  • Leuphana students can take a crash course or take the “TOEIC Preparation” course during the semester (sign up in myStudy).
  •  But first you should take the Placement Test  in the Self-Access Center. Once you have received your classification results, you can consult the Guide to find the best ways to prepare for your language level.

How do I receive the test results?

It takes about 8 - 10 working days for the test operator to assess the tests. As soon as we receive the Score Reports, we mail them to all participants.

Are my test results automatically sent to Student Services?

No. Your test results are handled confidentially. This means that you have to send your results to Student Services yourself.

Please take the original Score Report and one copy of it to the Information Center or to your personal contact person at Student Services. The person accepting the results will stamp the copy "Original was presented,"so you can keep your original test results.

How long are my results valid?

Two years, for official purposes and when applying for a position (job, internship, etc.).

If you apply for a Leuphana Consecutive Master major, the TOEIC results can be up to four years old.

When applying for a doctoral program, the results may be up to three years old; graduates of a Leuphana University Lüneburg Masters’ program are exempted from having to provide proof of English proficiency.

Can I decide not to take the test and have my money refunded?

  • Yes, but only up to three days before the test date. If you cancel your registration less than three days before the test date, you will receive a refund only with a doctor’s note. If you cannot provide proof of illness, you will be required to pay 30% of the test fee.
  • To get a refund:
    • Send an e-mail to sprachenzentrum@leuphana.de
    • State the test date.
    • If you cancel late due to illness, also submit the doctor’s note.
    • State your account number and bank information.
    • Be patient; processing may take a while.
  • Can I use the money for the test for the next test?
Yes, if you cancel in time. If for legitimate reasons you cannot take the test on the scheduled date, you may take the test on the next scheduled date. However, you have to sign up again, sign the registration form and submit it, as well as send a brief message to toeic@leuphana.de.
  • I accidentally paid twice. What should I do?
Proceed in the same way as described in the answer to the first question in this section.

How can I order a Certificate of Achievement?

A normal Score Report is sufficient for the Leuphana admission requirement.

If you would like, you can order a Certificate of Achievement from the test operator.
