Events

In the winter semester, there will once again be a variety of events for all those interested in languages. Among them are the weekly language cafés for different languages.

  • In the language cafés you can improve your communication skills in the respective foreign language with the help of native speakers in a relaxed atmosphere and become more relaxed about talking in a foreign language.
  • The learning groups are intended as a support and meeting place for self-learners in the field of foreign languages.

Further information on dates for the language cafés and the learning groups as well as information on events during the winter semester can be found on this page.

Current Events

This semester the Self-Access Center organizes once again various events where language learners can meet and talk to each other. All events have in common that they highlight the joy of speaking and getting to know each other.

30.11.2022 6 to 10 pm: Game Night (Room C5.104)

When the days become shorter and the November sky blocks most of the sunlight, it is time for a cozy night in the warmth. The team of the SLZ invites you to a fun game night with snacks and warm beverages. Together with other language learners you can try games from our big selection. Of course, you are welcome to bring your own game ideas and your favourite snacks.

01.12.2022 7 pm: Brazilian Cinema (Lecture Hall 1)

On December 1st, the SLZ shows “Que Horas Ela Volta?” in collaboration with the Unikino. The Brazilian movie, written and directed by Anna Muylaert, is an affectionate social comedy about class that mischievously asks for the need of a “revolution” or reorientation on that matter.

After a short introduction to the title, the history, and the critique in society in this regard, the film will be shown in Portuguese (Original Version) with German subtitles.

15.12.2022 6 pm: Christmas festivities (Room C5.104)

December is coming and we warmly invite you to chat with us about Christmas and the traditions in different countries that are linked to it. You can look forward to an evening full of music, punch, good food, interesting conversations in German, English or other languages, and one or the other Christmas surprise! Feel also free to bring your favorite Christmas speciality. We would like to emphasize that this event is open to all students, regardless of whether you celebrate Christmas or not.

If you would like to come, please send us an e-mail to slz@leuphana.de or contact us via Instagram or Facebook. But of course, you can join the party spontaneously too.

MondiALLE

MondiALLE is an event format that has the exchange of language and culture between student as its core element. The events take place every last friday of the month and each event has its own theme.

A special feature of the events is that all participants can write their names as well as the languages they can be addressed in on a piece of paper. In doing so, the students can easily find other students who speak their target language and start a conversation with them. A specific language level is not required to participate to the events.

Look back: MondiALLE in summer semester 2022

During the summer semester the Self-Access Center organized international evenings on three fridays. As the activities and venues varied from event to event, boredom had no chance to come up.
