Collaborative work

Collaborative learning and working motivates and activates students and enables them to work towards a learning goal in direct exchange with other students and teachers. This way, they can reflect on their own learning progress and work on joint products.

Digital teaching-learning environments and digital tools facilitate collaborative work - especially in the self-study phases. Learners not only cooperate with each other, but are also required to coordinate their collaboration. This supports the formation of social skills.

In this series of short workshops on collaborative learning and working, we will present individual teaching-learning scenarios and tools that you can try out for yourself. We will also suggest ways of using them and integrating them into courses in a meaningful way. In this way, you will be able develop your own concepts for teaching.

This series will be held from May to July of 2022 and includes several dates á 1.5 hours (each 12.00-13.30)

  • 23.5.2022 "Motivation fördern mit Collaboard" (Sigrun Lehnert)
  • 31.5.2022 "Aktivierung mit Cryptpad und OnlyOffice" (Sigrun Lehnert)
  • 8.6.2022 "Open Educational Resources (OER) und das OER-Portal twillo kennenlernen" (Aliki Kaiser, Noreen Krause)
  • 13.6.2022 "Kooperatives Lernen und Gruppendynamik" (Leonore Peer)

Agility in teaching

This workshop series offers an introduction (module 1&2) to the topic of agility and its application in university teaching. First, basic concepts and the mindset underlying agility will be elaborated in order to make value attitudes and the fundamental principles of agility tangible and understandable. In doing so, we will also touch upon ethically relevant aspects, as it is the basis for an innovative, contemporary understanding of more flexible collaboration with students.

Overall, an agility concept will be developed that combines the necessary inner attitude with agile methodological tools so that you are able to respond to increasingly complex demands in everyday teaching that work for you. In the further course of the workshop (modules 3-5), agile methodological tools will be presented in detail and shown in practice.

Examples and group exercises will be used to show you how to quickly put agile techniques into practice. A special focus is placed on agile communication techniques as well as on reflecting one's own role as a teacher in order to easily determine how the topic of agility can be integrated into one's everyday teaching and working life. Following the workshop, an open discussion evening (module 6) will take place in order to reflect on the use of agile methods in the group before the start of the winter semester and to discuss, using concrete examples, in what form agile components can be implemented in one's own teaching portfolio.

This series will be held online from May to July of 2022 and will be led by Dr. Katharina Lehmann (Munich).

Media production for teaching

The Media Production workshop series responds to the desire of many teachers to acquire or expand their know-how on the production of audiovisual media products in the context of their teaching. With a look behind the scenes, you will get to know processes of preparation and realization of audio and video productions from a different perspective. The focus of each session is an introduction to the practical production of various media formats - either on your own laptop, or directly with the audio and video production technology that the Leuphana AVM Service provides teachers with.

The podcast format, for example, can pursue various goals in the context of teaching: from diversifying the design of teaching materials to promoting creative engagement with complex topics through students' own productions. The participants of the workshop work with the freeware Audacity.

The Video as a medium allows processes or results to be explained in a lively way in order to make them visible and transparent. Thus, explanatory videos are becoming increasingly important in the educational context. Positive effects of video explanations (reception and production) can be seen for cognitive factors like knowledge increase as well as for non-cognitive factors like motivation and attention. In the two-part workshop, formats such as selfcast, screencast, slidecast, how-to, laying technique, stop motion, Khan style and digital animation will be introduced and discussed.

Interviews with experts are also a common means of reproducing scientific discussions or presenting innovative and topical content. The resulting video can be incorporated into teaching or learning contexts either in one piece or in parts. The resulting recordings are prepared for a digital audio-visual publication in the post-production workshop. Step by step, using the freeware version of DaVinci Resolve, participants virtually post-produce a video mix of moving image, photo, digital illustrations, music and typography on their laptops.

The series is conducted by Marianna Baranovska-Bölter (MIZ).
