Certificate courses: Construction Law and Management

Contract and project management at the interface of construction law and construction management

Hardly any construction projects proceed as planned in the contract. Different or changing requirements, defects, changes in quantities, delays in construction - there are many reasons for the actual building work to deviate from original specifications, and in the end – or indeed during the process – contracting parties can also become involved in arguments on the fair distribution of costs and on remuneration.

Nonetheless, these risks inherent in construction contracts can be costed and the impact of disruptions on the construction process significantly reduced if there is a clear approach to contract and project management from the outset. Such an approach requires, however, an understanding of building law and general contractual conditions, as well as systematic costing. Both are taught at a Masters level on the certificate programme "Gestörter Bauablauf und Nachträge" [Disruptions to the Construction Process and Contract Amendments], which consists of modules from the successful Construction Law Masters programme. The certificate focuses on aspects of contract and project management and is aimed specifically at project managers in the construction industry and young professionals wishing to specialise in the area of contract/amendment and project management.
