Leuphana’s Research Initiatives

Leuphana University of Lüneburg understands its role as theme-oriented university dedicated to the current research issues affecting the civil society of the 21st century. In order to facilitate necessary subject-overarching research, Leuphana’s research activities are installed within four university-wide, inter- and cross-disciplinary “Research Initiatives”, namely: education, culture, management and business activity, and sustainability. Each of Leuphana’s four faculties directs one of the knowledge initiatives. Researchers within the research initiatives apply an inter- and cross-disciplinary method to expand on a number of cross-sectional topics.

 

The Research Initiative on Culture stands under the leadership of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Cultures of critique, digital cultures and democracy research constitute its three cross- and transdisciplinary main themes. They are dedicated to current societal shifts, and embedded within long historical development lines. The Research Initiative on Education stands under the leadership of the Faculty of Education. In a world characterized by heterogeneity, digitalization and globalisation, the education of (young) people represents a central societal challenge. Heterogeneity, the link between theory and practice, self-regulation, as well as e-learning and blended learning, form the four core topics with which the knowledge initiative contributes to improving the education chances of people of all ages and situations. The Research Initiative on Management and Entrepreneurship and business activity stands under the leadership of the Faculty of Business and Economics. Its large disciplinary breadth serves to formulate socially relevant questions in the focal points of Entrepreneurship, Governance, Digital Transformation, Technology and Innovation, and Behaviour and Change. The Research Initiative on Sustainability stands under the leadership of the Faculty of sustainability. By investigating the transformation and development processes leading to a sustainable society, they contribute to actively shaping this process.
