Digital Cultures

The Humanities Centre for Advanced Studies Media Cultures of Computer Simulation (MECS) resides at the Centre for Digital Cultures (CDC) and the Institute of Culture and Aesthetics of Digital Media (ICAM) under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Claus Pias and Prof. Dr. Martin Warnke. The MECS is  funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). Since the summer term 2013, it convenes internationally renowned fellows, junior scientists and scholars to conduct joint research.

Besides the MECS, four European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)-financed projects with focus on "Digital Media" of the Innovation Incubator Lüneburg are established within the CDC:

  • Moving Image Lab (since 2010, Director: Prof. Dr. Timon Beyes and Prof. (apl) Dr. Martin Warnke)
  • Art and Civic Media (since 2012, Prof. Dr. Claus Pias, Prof. Dr. Timon Beyes, Prof. Dr. Mathias Fuchs)
  • Public Service Media 2.0 (since 2012, Director: Prof. Dr. Timon Beyes, Prof. Dr. Volker Grassmuck, Prof. Dr. Claus Pias, Prof. Dr. Hermann Rotermund)
  • Hybrid Publishing (since 2012, Director: Prof. Dr. Timon Beyes, Prof. (apl) Dr. Martin Warnke, Dr. Mercedes Bunz.)

These projects are supplemented by individual DFG-funded projects at the ICAM and form a bridge also to the art history research conducted at Leuphana. The further expansion of the Centre for Digital Cultures (CDC) is an important element of the strategic development and internationalisation of the Digital Media research at Leuphana University of Lüneburg.
