English linguistics and area studies: English Dialogue Analysis (Seminar)

Dozent/in: Anita Fetzer

Termin:
wöchentlich | Mittwoch | 10:15 - 11:45 | 15.10.2007 - 01.02.2008 | W 201

Inhalt: In dialogue analysis and conversation analysis, discourse and text are conceived as deeply ordered, structurally organized phenomena. As a consequence of that, language is not only seen as a linguistic system, but also as a vehicle for social action. The goal of this course is to analyse and discuss ‘stretches longer than individual sentences’ with regard to (1) monologism vs. dialogism (speakers & listeners), (2) conversation-analytic categories (turn-taking - adjacency - preference), (3) sense-making in discourse and situated fixation of linguistic meaning, (4) contexts in discourse and discourse in context, and (5) discourse types and genres.
