„Schwedenkrimi“ versus Bullerbysyndromet. Schwedisch B2.1 (FSL) (Seminar)

Inhalt: Tyskarnas kärlek till Sverige och Sverigebilden är och var starkt påverkade bl. a. av Astrid Lindgrens böcker och ledde till det såkallade Bullerby-syndromet. Många tyskar ser Sverige som ett paradisland, ett slags imaginärt ”Storbullerby” i norr. Å andra sidan har inga deckarförfattare från ett annat land så stor framgång i Tyskland som svenska deckarförfattare som Mankell, Marklund och Nesser med mera. Detta enastående fenomen har till och med skapat en egen genre: Schwedenkrimi. Den här motsatsen kräver en närmare förklaring. Under kursens lopp ska vi ägna oss åt undersökningen av frågan: Hur kommer det sig att svenska deckare är så omtyckta i Tyskland trots att tyskarna har en allt för idyllisk Sverigebild? I centrum står Håkan Nessers deckare Kim Novak badade alldrig i sjön Genezareth. Förhoppningsvis kommer han som gäst till Leuphana Universtät för att hålla en offentlig läsning här. I alla fall kommer Christel Hildebrandt, Nessers tyska översättare, och pratar om samarbetet med honom. Men också andra kända författares deckarnoveller läser och undersöker vi så som Henning Mankell och Liza Marklund. Utöver det tänker vi ta en blick tillbaka på svenska deckarnas början. Dessutom kommer studenterna att skypa om ämnet med tyskstudenterna på nivå B2 på Linnéuniversitetet i Kalmar/Växjö, en av Leuphanas svenska partneruniversitet.

"Dilin Gücü". Türkisch B1 (FSL) (Seminar)

Inhalt: Günlük yaşantımızda sık sık iki ya da daha fazla dilin iç içe geçtiği bir dil kullanımıyla karşılaşmaktayız. Bu Fenomeni sadece çocuklarda değil, tüm eğitim ve sosyal zümrelerden yetişkinlerde de görmek mümkün. Bu konu sadece bu görüngü etkisi altında olanları değil, bilim çevrelerinin de ilgisini çekmekte ve konu edilmektedir. Bilim çevreleri, birçok kullanım alanı ve sebebi olan bu biçimin bir fenomen olduğunu vurgularlar. Bizde dersimizde bu konuyla yakından ilgilenecek ve bu görgünün yani “Code-Switching”in hangi durumlarda ve neden kullanıldığını araştıracağız. Öğrenciler yapacak oldukları röportajlarla görgünün kimi biçimlerini inceleyecekler. Buradaki amaç, Code-Switching`in ne zaman kullanıldığı, nedenleri, hangi biçimlerinin olduğu, yaşa dayalı bir kullanımın olup olmadığı gibi sorulara yanıt bulmaktır. Diğer önemli çalışma konusu olarak ise dilsel ve dil bilgisel ön hazırlık, kelimelerin tanımlanması, içeriksel çalışma sıralanabilir. Inhalt: En una Europa marcada por la crisis, los medios de comunicación nos muestran cada vez más el papel relevante que ha tomado Alemania en el último tiempo. Si observamos como los medios alemanes muestran la imagen de los países debilitados por la crisis económica cabe preguntarse ¿qué imagen se presenta de Alemania en el extranjero? ¿Qué información aparece en la prensa española sobre Alemania? ¿Qué imagen se transmite por el lenguaje? ¿Cómo se percibe Alemania y qué razones económicas, culturales y políticas influyen o justifican su percepción? En este seminario vamos a tratar de responder a estas preguntas mientras analizamos los medios de comunicación españoles: prensa, radio, televisión y cine. ¿Puede influir esa imagen en el desarrollo de una identidad europea? Paralelamente a este seminario tendrá lugar otro en el que se analizará la imagen de Alemania en los medios de comunicación franceses. Está previsto realizar algún encuentro donde los dos grupos mostrarán resultados y compartirán experiencias y opiniones respecto al tema analizado.

Inhalt: Communicating on a global level is becoming more and more important in today's world. Therefore, in this course, Leuphana students will skype with students from th University of Minnesota to discuss their views about specific topics such as cultural comparison, identity, and stereotypes among others. The class will actively research the causes of stereotypes and determine how to refute them. A variety of theories and models of culture and communication (e.g. Hall, Hofstede, Trompenaars, Schulze von Thun, etc.) will be examined and discussed. The theoretical aspects of this course will be put into practice via skyping and blogging in which students will debate and reflect on the afore-mentioned topics. In the writing workshops, special emphasis will be placed on differences in register; use of non-stereotypical as well as gender-neutral language; structure of blog entries and the clear, concise, and coherent development of views as well as arguments. Inhalt: After a reading of Erving Goffman's seminal work, “The Presentation of the Self in Everyday Life,” we will discuss what implications his dramaturgical approach to social interaction, in particular "impression management," have for communication in professional contexts. A series of open-ended case studies that reveal the social complexity of decision-making and acting in an organization will be used as the basis of class and small-group discussions on communicative strategies in light of Goffman's insights. Interdisciplinary cases revolving around issues such as ethics (e.g. corruption), international and intercultural teamwork (e.g. a joint venture in China) involve insights from psychology, sociology, management and communication theory to be solved. The goal of the class however is the successful implementation of these communicative strategies in a communicative role-play, which will be discussed and feedback offered. Ciclo de cine: Colombia a través de su cine. Spanisch B2/C1 (FSL) (Seminar)

Inhalt: Con este seminario buscamos el fortalecimiento de lo aprendido, como la ampliación y profundización del idioma espanol mediante el análisis y aspectos socioculutrales de los paises de habla hispana apoyándonos en la reflexión del contenido de algunas películas colombianas. Si el cine nos acerca a la realidad de Colombia, también nos concede la ventaja de percibir las diferencias idiomáticas en su contexto, pues el lenguaje es vivo, fruto de la vida cotidiana y ha evolucionado al mismo tiempo y ritmo que lo ha hecho la sociedad, implicando otras formas idiomáticas para expresar esas experiencias. Además, a través del cine entrenaremos la comprensión de las diferentes variantes del español, en este caso de los dialectos y tonalidades de Colombia, como una de las tantas fuentes culturales, desde la cual se enriquece el idioma español. A lo largo del seminario descubriremos una Colombia pensada desde los colombianos en contraste con nuestra propia percepción europea. La historia del cine colombiano nos permitirá una vez más reconocer que el cine como la cultura y las sociedades son contextos dinámicos, en continuo avance e intercambio. A través de sus películas nos confrontaremos también a otras ideologías y por supuesto a la creación y ajuste de estereotipos. Miraremos detrás del telón con algunas herramientas de técnica cinematográfica como con la información histórica y social, para descubrir qué valores y conocimientos se nos quiere transmitir desde esa perspectiva artística. Para todo ello utilizaremos como fuentes central la información disponible al público de la Fundación Patrimonio Filmico Colombiano y diversas publicaciones colombianas sobre los temas pertinentes. Los resultados del seminario los haremos públicos en un ciclo de cine colombiano. We will look at classical rhetorical concepts dating back to Aristotle – such as the rhetorical triad of ethos, pathos, and logos – in connection with contemporary proposals in order to help you understand the importance of context in persuasion and what means you have to reach your goals. Moreover, special emphasis will be placed on the following aspects of language use: appropriate register based on the type of proposal, culturally stylistic aspects of presenting and writing, effective word choice (avoiding translation errors). Inhalt: This seminar is geared towards students planning to study abroad for a semester or longer. After examining the concept of a national academic culture and comparing German academia with, for example, American campus life, you will determine exactly which competencies you will need to focus on as well as perfect for a successful study-abroad experience at your future host university. We will then examine in detail reading strategies as well as culturally specific presentation techniques and research paper writing skills. You will be able to work on your specific academic interests while developing more general language and social competencies in group-work and plenary sessions. Entstehung des japanischen Schriftsystems und seine Wirkung auf die japanische Kultur (FSL) (Projektseminar)

Inhalt: Mein Lehrangebot für WS 13/14: I. Problemstellung und Aufgaben A. Thema der Lehrveranstaltung: Entstehung der japanischen Schriftsprache und ihre Beziehung zur japanischen gesprochen Sprache und zur Kultur: Es geht einerseits um die enge Beziehung zwischen gesprochener Sprach und Schreibsprache, und andererseits um die Beziehung zwischen Sprache und Kultur. Die Frage, was passiert ist, als die Japaner im 4. Jahrhundert mit der Annahme der panasiatischen Religion "Buddhismus" chinesische Wortschriftzeichen (Kanji) in ihre Schrift übernahmen, soll in dieser Lehrveranstaltung thematisiert werden. B. Aufgaben der Lehrveranstaltung 1) Integration chinesischer Wortschriftzeichen in die japanische gesprochene Sprache: Durch die vergleichende Sprachwissenschaft und vergleichende Kulturwissenschaft macht die Lehrveranstaltung deutlich, wie problematisch die Annahme des Buddhismus und der Kanji für die japanische Sprache und Kultur war. Durch Lese- und Schreibübungen sowie Hör-und Sprechübungen vollziehen die Studierenden nach, wie erfolgreich die Japaner zuletzt chinesische Wortschriftzeichen (Kanji) durch die Erfindung zweier phonetischer Silbenschriften (Hiragana und Katakana) in ihre gesprochene Sprache integriert haben, und wie ein lateinisches Umschriftsystem (Romaji) erfunden wurde, um den Europäern das Erlernen des Japanischen zu erleichtern. 2) Integration des Buddhismus in die japanische Kultur: Durch vergleichende Religions- und Kulturwissenschaft verfolgen die Studierenden den Integrationsprozess des Buddhismus in die japanische Kultur. C. Ziel der Lehrveranstaltung Durch kalligraphische Schreibübungen und Konversationsübungen werden die Studierenden in die vier japanischen Schriftsysteme (Kanji, Hiragana, Katakana und Romaji) eingeführt. Inhalt: Poised between two worlds, the issues of identity, assimilation, cultural heritage, and survival figure prominently in contemporary Mexican-American and Native culture and literature. Due to the awareness of displacement and the necessity to belong, these cultures and literatures are marked by both the search for a new identity and the desire to preserve an ancient heritage. In addition to focusing on gender issues in both cultures, a new light will be cast on the old stereotype of the "eco-Indian." Specific emphasis will be placed on reading strategies for academic and literary works, effective presentation skills and correct use of academic register. Ethnic Studies and Eco-Criticism Meet Intercultural Exchange: A Study Trip to Las Vegas. Englisch B2.2 (FSL) (Projektseminar)

Inhalt: Do you want to get beyond information-only seminars? Do you want to "get your hands dirty" while learning a lot as well as vastly improve your cultural awareness and intercultural communicative competencies? If so, then read on: In this second part of a two-semester project which new participants are welcome to join, we will put together a meaningful study trip to Las Vegas from March 30 - April 8, 2104. In particular, we will be working with a Lüneburg local, Janice Harrington, who is the mother of Gospel workshops in Germany and multi-talented performer/singer of African American music. Students will analyze and think critically about the impact culture has on communication, human behavior, society, and identity construction. Moreover, we will delve deeper into the multifaceted nature of culture, to cross borders of all kinds, and to learn about ourselves as cultural beings. Project participants will have the opportunity to perfect their language skills (e.g. public presentations and speaking, conducting interviews) in a variety of settings and for a variety of purposes and will be mentored on an individual basis, especially those students interested in combining their study trip with an internship of their own. Moreover, we will finish any details of planning the study trip as well as learn about African American music and culture and interdisciplinary topics related to Las Vegas. We will carry out the benefit concert on Nov. 20, 2013 (to help fund the excursion). Finally, we will travel to Las Vegas, meet with American university students and their faculty from the University of Nevada/Las Vegas, attend local lectures, go on a few excursions (to Hoover Dam, the National Museum of Nuclear Testing, a Native reservation, a black church, and music events with Janice Harrington) and reflect on the project once we return. Inhalt: Avec la crise qui a aujourd'hui lieu en Europe, les médias nous montrent régulièrement que l'Allemagne joue désormais un rôle de premier plan dans de nombreux pays européens. Si les médias allemands traitent de ces pays touchés par la crise en donnant d'eux une certaine image, qu'en est-il de l'image de l'Allemagne à l'étranger ? Que nous apprend la presse française sur l'Allemagne ? Comment est-elle perçue et quelles sont les raisons économiques, culturelles ou sociales de cette perception ? Nous essayerons de répondre à ces questions à travers une analyse de médias français (périodiques, émissions de radio mais aussi journaux télévisés) et de voir quelles conséquences ces perceptions peuvent jouer dans la construction d'une identité européenne. Un cours aura lieu en parallèle qui traitera le cas de l'Espagne et des rencontres de groupe sont prévues durant le semestre.

Inhalt: Quand nous pensons à nos voisins français, il semble qu'il soit très facile d'en faire un portrait. Que ce soit par la gastronomie (le vin, le fromage et l'indétrônable baguette), par l'histoire (liberté, égalité, fraternité) ou encore par le comportement social (rebelle, toujours en grève), nos stéréotypes viennent rapidement à l'esprit. Mais qui est réellement le Français d'aujourd'hui ? Pourquoi se voit-il comme français et comment se définit son sentiment d'identité nationale ? Quelles sont les conséquences du contexte international actuel (mondialisation, intégration grandissante à l'Union Européenne) sur le sentiment d'identité nationale ? Est-il encore d'actualité ou appartient-il déjà à l'Histoire ? Nous essayerons de répondre à ces questions tout au long du semestre aussi bien à travers l'analyse de documents authentiques que par des contacts avec l'extérieur.

Inhalt: Los Estados Unidos vienen sufriendo en el último tiempo un cambio demográfico importante. Las previsiones señalan que en 2050 habrá más inmigrantes en California que hablen español que inglés. Entre dos mundos, los inmigrantes mexicanos en los EEUU viven y representan su identidad al mismo tiempo que influyen en el desarrollo social y las costumbres de la sociedad estadounidense. En este seminario tras la lectura y análisis de cuentos, poemas y testimonios de autoras chicanas contemporáneas se discutirá en qué medida los inmigrantes mexicanos "chicanos/-as" influyen con su lengua y cultura en la política y la sociedad de los EEUU. Además se estudiará la cultura mexicana descrita en los textos y se tematizará sobre las diferentes experiencias de hombres y mujeres en la zona fronteriza enre los EEUU y México. Durante el semestre se reflexionará sobre la experiencia inmigratoria en los EEUU y se comparará con las olas migratorias que están llegando a nuestra "Fortaleza Europa".

Inhalt: Avec l'internationalisation des grandes entreprises, les connaissances linguistiques et les compétences interculturelles sont devenues des éléments de plus en plus importants dans le monde du travail. Dans ce cours, nous approfondirons les connaissances linguistiques - axées sur le domaine du français des affaires - et nous analyserons quelques éléments portant sur l'interculturalité dans les entreprises. Avec les résultats de nos recherches, nous irons à la rencontre de francophones travaillant dans un environnement international. Il s'agira à travers ce cours de déterminer quelles sont les compétences nécessaires au travail dans un contexte international et quelle est la meilleure manière de les acquérir.

Inhalt: A causa de la creciente internacionalización de las grandes empresas, el plurilingüismo está presente en las relaciones comerciales y el mercado de trabajo es cada vez más multilingüe. La diversidad cultural se ha convertido en un componente esencial tanto en el mundo empresarial como en las relaciones e intercambios internacionales. La rutina diaria del trabajo exige de los empleados un entendimiento entre culturas, además del conocimiento de otras lenguas. En este seminario se reflexionará sobre las competencias lingüísticas específicas de la economía y se analizarán textos específicos sobre la competencia intercultural en las empresas. Los estudiantes tendrán la posibilidad de entrevistar en español a profesionales de empresas en la zona metropolitana de Hamburgo para ver la función que desempeña el español como lengua extranjera y de comunicación en el mundo de la empresa. Además se hablará sobre la preparación para el trabajo en un entorno tan internacional, de las habilidades que es necesario desarrollar y de cómo se pueden obtener.

Inhalt: Durch die Gruppentreffen mit Studierenden verschiedener Kulturen und die individuellen Treffen mit den Sprachdozenten lernen die Studierenden, ihre eigenen Sprachziele zu definieren und zu erreichen sowie den Lernprozess gemeinsam zu reflektieren. Die Themenbereiche des Tandems werden individuell gewählt und stehen in Verbindung zu den eigenen Studienschwerpunkten/-interessen. Die intensive face-to-face Arbeit mit Studierenden anderer Kulturen ermöglicht das theoretische Wissen über Kultur ins Praktische und Faktische umzuwandeln. Auch die Reflexion über die eigene Kultur wird gefördert.

Negotiation in an International Business and Legal Environment. Englisch C1 (FSL) (Seminar)

Inhalt: Based on case analysis, both the legal and cultural aspects of negotiations between corporations will be dealt with. Students will have the opportunity to apply their negotiation and language competencies in intercultural case studies based on agency agreements, product presentations and sales contracts as well as the development of a sustainable tourist resort. After an introduction to intercultural (e.g. Hofstede, Trompenaars) as well as negotiation theory and strategies (e.g. Ury and Fisher), students will be expected to research and present cultural profiles, prepare for a mock negotiation, and finally draft an preliminary agreement. Additionally, emphasis will be placed on negotiation-related language competencies such as reading strategies for understanding legal contracts, structuring and drafting reports on the negotiation outcome as well as culturally appropriate communiciation styles (e.g. appropriate register, politeness strategies, proper use of the conditional for proposals and counterproposals). Inhalt: När och hur många gånger tackar man? Måste man ta av sig skorna när man kommer på besök? Får man fråga en om inkomsten? Det finns skrivna och oskrivna regler och umgängesformer i det svenska samhället som man behöver känna till för att smälta in i olika miljöer. Som Erasmus-student i Sverige är det bra att veta vilka normer och beteenden man måste förstå och helst följa för att kunna leva i Sverige. Man bör veta vad som är vanligt och vad som är ovanligt, tillåtet eller förbjudet och lära sig Sveriges seder och bruk. Och vad betyder jantelagen? Under kursen ska deltagarna bekanta sig med oskruvna samhällsnormer som inte står i någon handbok, men som är ett måste för alla som ska studera och leva och integreras i Sverige. Det som är självklart för en svensk är ofta rena gåtan för en som är i Sverige för första gången. Okunskap kan leda till missförstånd som kursen kan hjälpa att undvika.

Inhalt: Business isn’t just for business majors. Whether you are studying engineering, cultural studies, sustainability or one of the other 22 majors offered, you will be part of business. In other words, you will be communicating your ideas to people around the world. But are you ready? This seminar focuses on the international and virtual happenings of business. Using culturally appropriate, informative, and persuasive communication styles in spoken as well as written English is the key to successful meetings, networking, and trade fairs. Students will participate in mock internal and virtual international meetings to create and promote their idea/product. Via networking and exchanging ideas, they will analyze and determine the level of interest for a potential launch. Finally, they will take their idea/product to a trade fair where they will present it. Specific emphasis will be placed written competencies (e.g. concise minutes from a meeting, a brief business proposal, a final progress report), oral competencies (pronunciation enhancement, rhetorical strategies for presenting) as well as culturally appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication (direct and indirect communication styles, use of gestures, time, and space). All of these aspects will be practiced by skyping with another university course in Ireland. Tag: professional competencies
