Inhalt: Europe’s marine environment is under increasing pressure from both traditional activities such as shipping, fisheries and oil and gas extraction as well as emerging activities such as offshore renewable energy production and aquaculture. At the same time, there is increased awareness of the need to protect and restore marine and coastal ecosystems. Marine spatial planning is the key policy instrument for managing competing claims on marine space and ensuring human activities stay within environmental limits. This interactive seminar will address the theory and practice of ecosystem-based marine spatial planning. Participating students will examine and critically assess current practices of marine spatial planning in European countries. Working in groups, they will prepare an integrated marine spatial plan for the transboundary Dogger Bank in the North Sea.
