Applied Macroeconomics: International Economics (Vorlesung)

Inhalt: The first part of this course deals with the causes and consequences of international trade. We analyze basic theories that explain why countries trade with each other and discuss advantages and disadvantages of globalization. We further consider various reasons why governments should intervene in international markets by using different trade policy instruments. The second part of the course analyzes the factors that determine exchange rates and how foreign exchange markets influence the real economy. We discuss advantages and disadvantages of currency unions and the implications of different macroeconomic policies. The concepts will be applied in the context of crisis episodes and current economic challenges.
