Inhalt: The goal of this course is to examine the form, meaning and function of negation in English. Particular attention is given to its functions in discourse. We look at the structure of a sentential negation, morphological negation, semantic negation and pragmatic negation, and analyse clauses, sentences and texts with regard to the questions of what is negated and of what the different types of negation express.
