International Environmental Law (Seminar)

Inhalt: What is international environmental law? How can international law address the different environmental challenges that we are facing globally? This course is a lecture on the role of law in the management of international environmental issues, such as climate change, biodiversity or plastic pollution. By examining the international regulation of different environmental issues, the course will look at different case law. It will analyse the function of international courts and tribunals and the different perspectives on litigation (climate litigation, biodiversity litigation, etc.). The emphasis will be on understanding the fundamental principles of international environmental law (IEL), focusing on the technical and practical aspects of international environmental law and policy. The course will be instructed around different themes: after a general introduction to International Law the course will discuss different subfields of International Environmental Law.
