International Summer University - for the first time in online format

Learning German and getting to know German culture - both virtually. Leuphana's International Summer University (ISU), which took place from August 3 to 30, 2021, demonstrated that this is possible and, due to the pandemic, relied exclusively on online learning formats for the first time. 20 students from 16 countries accepted the challenge and connected daily from their home countries for 5 hours of German lessons with the teachers and their learning group. The results were impressive: at the end, everyone had learned a lot: grammar, vocabulary, speaking skills - and last but not least, a number of German proverbs.

Language teaching also includes culture. The participants not only received an informative and entertaining virtual tour of the city and campus, but also an entertaining introduction to Low German. They watched different German movies together and some even cooked a German dish in their own kitchen, feeling a bit like they were actually in Germany....

Although everyone could only get to know each other virtually, friendships were made across national borders: from Madagascar to Uzbekistan, from Italy to Moldova, from Burkina Faso to Hungary. Visits are already planned and everyone hopes to meet in Lüneburg some day.
